Default Boyds Gun Stock Question.

I would love to get an aftermarket stock for my Tikka Varmint. Unfortunately I am on a bit of a budget and the only one that works is a Boyd's Laminate. Would a laminate stock be good for target use, the only time I want to use this rifle is for bench work. I am torn between the At a One stock and the Pro Varmint with adjustable cheek piece, I don't know much about bench shooting but I enjoy it. What say you?

Tikka - T3 - left hand detachable magazine are the parameters.

I have the AT-One stock in laminate. Although I have not shot it since it was bedded the stock itself offers an outstanding range of adjustment when using different shooting positions.

In my case the length of pull and height on the cheek piece are adjusted between positions and this is a very nice feature of the AT-One stock that should lend itself to better results.

Default Boyd’s stocks

I bought a set of laminate thumb hole style Boyd’s stocks for my TC Encore. They look nice, the finish was good but I found them to be on the heavy side, to large in the thumbhole area and didn’t fit my hand well.
If you can hold one first (if you haven’t already) might be beneficial.

Saw the post and thought I'd throw out a heads up.

I am mulling around the idea of getting another Boyd's. While looking at options for myself, I looked at the offerings for your LH Tikka.

In their pull down menu, Boyd's does not list a left hand, bull barrel option. Adding to that, they don't show the barrel channel dimensions for your stock.

Boyds does some things that, IMO, are a bit odd. Varmint style stocks with sporter barrel channels are one of them. Maybe some people like that combination. Maybe some people want to do the inletting themselves. Who knows?

A call to Boyd's would be in order.

If you're wanting to soak up a little of the recoil on your Tikka, a Boyd's would help with that.
The quality of my Boyd's stocks has been fine.

^^^^^ Yes I know about the barrel, but cannot see it being reamed for a bull barrel a big deal, I will contact them.

Boyd's makes good stocks and I like them just fine but with a 35% exchange rate and shipping they aren't all that cheap right now. Why not just build up the existing stock's cheek piece or add an adjustable cheek piece and or adjustable butt plate to it?

May also want to check out MCRS, they are a Canadian stock maker. You can buy adjustable cheek pieces, butt plates and the like from there.

Both my Savage target rifles wear laminated stocks, in some respects they are better then walnut BUT??? maybe not as good as other way more expensive options eg: fiberglass. I also have laminate (Boyds) on a .204 and a .260 Sako (Factory stock) I have never had a problem. An adjustable cheek piece is a great idea, so is a adjustable butt plate, but again all good things cost money.

I would like to bed the stock, not ideal with plastic. I know it can be done, but the bonding is not up to snuff. Also I find the wrist on my stock large.
