In two months I’ll be sitting on a Alaskan hillside glassing for a Grizzly. So looking forward to it.

Yes it’s possible to get a bear earlier but it’s too much effort
It sure is.

There is an incredible difference between a black bear being out and black bear being out.

I’m looking forward to a spring spot and stalk but this time in the mountains.
Not as many bears but it’s a good excuse to get back into the steep slopes

Seen a young black bear out. With the warm weather and melting going on it probably got flooded out of its den.

I was driving out west of Longview today, someone mentioned seeing tracks of a black bear. But we're still 4 weeks shy of the season would be my guess.

Pretty nice looking out tho.

3 sites, a double stand, a single and a ground blind at each.
Check cams April 20 and see whats up.

Good luck out there to the unique breed of bear hunters.!!.

Wow that’s a lot of effort to set up all of that!
I don’t know if you remember me from last year. (The 15 year old you helped out with my first season bear hunting.) Hope there’s some good karma headed your way for this season!

What bullet were you using? A NP would have broken both.A cup and core probably not.

5 inches behind the front leg is not the shoulder.

No I am saying 5” behind is where u should aim.
In that instance I hit the shoulder. Killed same bear two weeks later and performed an autopsy.

Well April 1st yesterday, spring black bear opened here in BC. If it's sunny tomorrow I might take my rifle for a hike. If I stay low maybe something might be out but really it'll likely be just a pleasant hike on an early spring day. It is a good way to scout for turkey sign though.
Looking forward to a couple of weekend backpack trips into the high country later in May. Spend Friday to Sunday on my favourite mountain in a camp a buddy and I set up about ten years ago. Love backpacking into there for bears, blue grouse are mating, elk and mule deer wander through camp. just hiking and glassing hoping to catch on the sunny slopes. There is never anyone up there in the spring, I generally have the whole mountain to myself. Turkey first though, I won't get out for bears much until the turkey season ends with either a turkey in the freezer or May 15 rolls around. it's a lot better bear hunting later anyhow. Good luck to everyone heading out this spring, be safe, have fun.

I’m still humming and hawing about where I’m going to go this year. The dilemma for me is I like the scenery of southern Alberta mountains and foothills yet they seem to lack the same bear numbers as the north. They do have some beauty cinnamon and blonde bears tho! Would like to do a backpack hunt and that seems to work better down south compared to the north. I’m wouldn’t be too picky about the bear if it’s a backpack trip in a beautiful setting.
Anyone care to weigh in?
(Located in Calgary btw)

Looks like they are starting to get out. Hopefully the next two weeks allow some melt to happen, but the forecast isn't great so far. We're planning on heading out April 22-24. Anyone have an update on the melt conditions up around Swan Hills/Fox Creek?

May 8 has always been a lucky day for me. Looks like it's going to be late this year.

I’m on a new area and spot this year, always been lots of bears around but there’s been so much snow I haven’t seen a thing yet. It’s way off the beaten path on a little raised area surrounded by dark spruce, ponds and beaver pond creeks… anxiously awaiting a bear to show up, but so far it’s been all ravens! I hope it pans out, watching pictures of ravens for 6 days now has me nervous.

Ravins will help bring in bears with the noises they make.
