Why not just have both methods to play it safe and be done with it. I always have my wallet so I carry a copy in my wallet. Heaven forbid someone steal it again, and within that time I'm getting it replaced I have an electronic version on hand. I don't think we are at the stage yet were we can totally rely on the electronic version 100% so why even chance it. No need.

I have been fishing for 20 years at the same lake year round and have never been asked to produce my license.

I take a picture of my signed license and leave the paper copy on shore with my wallet which has my driver's license, boating licence etc. It can't go to the bottom if its not on the boat.

Maybe that's not good enough for the older generation or the guys that won't do anything unless our government specifically says its ok. The fact is that technology often changes faster than the fine print of our laws.

The real crime would be an officer wasting the courts time, the judges time and the time of every one else involved on a technicality of a law that would result in a minimal fine at best.

I keep mine, along with my POC, under the liner of my waterproof pelican case for my camera. Which 99% of the time is with my fishing gear.

That is exactly my point dragon Thanks for that. If the government wishes to issue an electronic website they should accept said licence as proof so long as you meet the terms of that licence. If they wish to require a papery copy they should have updated the laws before issuing electronic copies.

okatokan good luck with that there is a big difference between am id ́ssued by the government and a chippy of said id and a fishing licence but if comparing apples and oranges makes you feel better have at it.

FYI - You may not laminate your licence - says right on the top in capital letters, it does anyway on mine purchased and printed at WSS
I cannot speak for the ones purchased online... maybe someone can chime in with the answer to that. Laminating mine was the first this I wanted to do when I bought my first one years ago... who issues a paper licence for a sport where its so easy to get wet?

The reason it says not to laminate a licence from a store is because they are printed on thermal paper and would turn Black in the process. You also shouldn't put them on your dash lol I learned that the hard way.

Ya mine where printed online I am sure it has to do with the paper like tyler said because I have been checked and the officers said that that was a great idea. To laminate it

Keep it in my wallet along with my WIN card. Lost my wallet once years ago but not since I started carrying it in my front pocket.

I would like the option of buying a five year license.
Could be a hard copy card or just a swipe of my win card.

Florida has this, you can buy a 5 year license and then if you want spend a few more bucks to get a card. They also have lifetime licenses and even combined licenses(hunting and fishing) which is kind of neat.

One potential problem I see with that (which they may have a different way to address) is that F&W would have no clue about how many people are actually fishing or hunting. While you can never say for sure, I think yearly license sales give you a rough idea of how many people intend to fish and hopefully you can work that into your management plans. With lifetime licenses you have no idea if the people are still fishing, still in the state, or even still alive. If they are sending out surveys there would be a huge waste sending to people no longer at that address, etc. You would need a system where people would have to update theri infomation... prbably a law REQUIRING them to do so. Just my uninformed thoughts anyway.

Now to show my gratitude, here's a tip for you.

The print on those licenses will fade in sunlight, so be sure to stick yours where the sun don't shine.

Hope this helps.

Spend enough time on AO just like you. Lol
So much information here.....

I still think the 5 yr plan would work.
Hell I've bought a one yr in the past and never went fishing. So any planning on the part of srd is out the window.
Then you consider the guys who fish 300 days a year. How does srd account for that?
Plus with a card the size of a WIN card, well it's theoretically tougher to "hide" it.

Just get old (65), then all you have to remember is your driver's license to prove your age, only for Alberta residents of course. Best compliment recently was F&W officer saying you don't look like a senior!

1) Picture of signed license stored on phone.
2) Ziplock bag in fly vest
3) Ziplock bag in spin tackle box
4) Ziplock bag in life jacket
5) Original that matches picture stays in wallet.

Love the fact that we can print out a bunch now.

Also, I personally know of at least two people that have showed the pictures on their phones and been ok. Guess it depends on the CO, but it worked for them.
