Default Open water whitefish

Hello all,

I have been looking into open water whitefish as of late and have found lots of oddball info regarding getting these sneaky devils in open water. The lake im targetting is lac ste anne and i know there are lots in there.

I have seen or heard about the bead heads or wire worms underneath bobbers set at various depths, small spoons or spinners etc...

I guess the real question is has anyone had any consistent success with these fish in open water. And where, when, and how would you start looking on a lake if they are not rising? They are so hard to predict and then even harder to get to bite - especially in this lake.

Thanks!

Default White fish in open water

Haven't tried that for a long time but we used to use wire worms with bobber along weed beds in the evening at Battle lake.
Good luck and have fun they put up a nice scrap

First get a windy day with some chop on the water.

Second go to Gunn and anchor in 8 foe

Third cast a small gold kastmaster or red 5 of diamonds

Fourth crawl the spoon through the sand with the occasional hop and stop . At the boat just lift it off the bottom and hot it a few times .

Been years since I fished St Ann in August like this but caught a lot of fish.
