If you point and fire a loaded shotgun at some one you have a good chance of killing them. I won't bother with the rest of the story.

If you are going to use a shotgun on thieves or would be thieves, rock salt works well. It is not fatal, just burns like hell and the perps will outrun a dog on their way out!! Highly unlikely they will be reporting anything to the cops and they will probably steer a long way clear of your place.
