Default weird AB species on the fly

it's -25 and I don't particularly want to fly fish but I've got the bug...

so how about this thread: what are some different species that y'all have caught on the fly in Alberta (or nearby)?

Here's a pretty large sucker in the smoke to get things rolling:

I knew it would be a 'pics or it did not happen' moment.

It was early July during the tail end of spring run-off on the Bow River.

I will find the picture.

Burbott are somewhat hard to find but caught more than one might think on the fly! Especially on rivers I have seen them take nymphs and streamers. My strangest catches have been goldfish on the bow and a sculpin, I’m sure more get hooked than we think but since they are small fish we never try to land them and don’t notice what it actually was!

I caught mooneye, goldeye, burbot, pike, walleye and sauger on a fly all in one day. All on a doc spratley beside hermitage park.

Caught bats on the crowsnest. Caught toads on quirk creek. Caught a beaver in the north sask. caught a muskrat in the NSR. Caught a Quillback in the NSR.

Caught seagulls on lake Sundance. Caught a duck that grabbed my corkie before I could move the line.

Walleye, perch, stickleback. Not so unusual in presence, but interesting incidental catches on the fly.

Come to think of it, is there any albertan fish that hasn't been caught on the fly? Only thing I can think of is sturgeon, haven't seen that yet.

I was with a guy who got a pretty big burb in pcr on a black and white clouser stripped across the bottom. we both almost fell out of the boat when we saw it.

A old friend caught a small sturgeon on the lower bow once nymphing, not a mega monster but 30” or so? He did post a pic on another forum maybe 10 years ago, and it did eat the sjw

That is probably the hardests thing to catch I’m sure since they are so uncommon in our waters that get flyfished most.

Years ago I regularly caught quillback below the outflow of the plant across from Hermitage Park. I think it is harder to get to now. I also believe it coincided likely with spawning as there was just a short 1-2 weeks a year you could catch them. I tied a weighted white polar bear gotcha and cast upstream in the rapids. fast sink line. Had to be careful not to snag. They were fighting machines.

In the Kootenays, but here's a sculpin that couldn't resist a 'booby' fly!

Me and a few friends have got Burbot out of the Bow. I know a guy who used to target Burbot with white streamers. Calls them the "king of gamefish"
