Default RCBS Supreme deluxe reloading kit from Cabelas review?

I'm getting a new rifle next week and would like to start reloading.

The RCBS supreme deluxe reloading kit from Cabelas looks like it has just about anything you'd want to do it efficiently, at a decent price.

Has anyone around here used it?
Likes or dislikes?

Thanks!

How big a rush are you in? If I was buying new, I would wait for a sale (Black Friday / Boxing Day).

First off, the kit you are looking at is a real cadillac. Nice stuff.

At Cabelas, I would give a long look to this Lyman kit as it is a complete one, but has some things I think the RCBS may be missing:

Prophet River has a good deal on this Hornady kit right now:

When my wife's niece got married we decided maybe it was the grooms turn to get a present so we bought the RCBS kit as their wedding present. As we heard it he spent most of the wedding night setting it up.
I have been using RCBS for 55 years now but not sure there is much difference nowadays between the different brands. Over the years the cost of one of these kits will be a fraction of what you are going to spend on bullets, brass, primers and powder.

The way Cabela's set up that kit is very well done, and it is a pretty good price compared to buying it in pieces. Nobody makes the perfect kit, there is always something to add, but, this has the good stuff in it.

I WAS in a rush, but the order didn't make it out from Blaser USA on time, so it'll be another two weeks.

I figure that just about everything gun-related holds its value so well I might as well get the good stuff right away.

I hadn't even considered Black Friday. Does stuff like the RCBS kit ever go on sale?

I would check with Prophet River before purchasing from Cabelas.

X2!

OP, if your only loading for a hunting rifle and don't shoot a lot (comparatively) the Chargemaster included in the kit mentioned in your post is probably overkill. You may be better off with a beam scale + a bunch of load manuals to start off with.

RCBS often has rebates in the last month or two of the year, keep a eye on their website. Last year I bought enough stuff to snag the $175 USD rebate cheque they were offering.

It's going to be a target rifle, so hopefully I'll put about 1000 rounds thru it a year, so I'd like to get things that'll make it easier.

Thanks for the tip on the RCBS rebates! Wish I could like responses here.

I should be able to wait until mid-December to actually buy stuff, now that the snow is here.

I bought the kit you're looking at a few years back. I think it was $800. It got everything you need and then some. Great value imo.

^^this

I've had great service from Prophet River. They ship quickly, and more importantly they know there stuff when you're talking to them on the phone. I've also had good experience with P&D in edmonton

Then you won't regret getting the kit with the Chargemaster. Look up the straw mod, it greatly reduces overcharges. If you go with the Chargemaster, watch the reading every time you lift the pan off of the scale to pour a powder charge. If it stays the same, the zero and calibration haven't changed. If it starts to fluctuate wipe the pan down with a Bounce sheet, to get rid of any static that has built up.

I have this kit.

It’s pretty good. No complaints from me.

The charge master is sweet. There’s a guy on CGN that sells aluminum inserts to stop the overcharges.
