Whitetail or mule deer
Which is better tasting, whitetail or mule deer. Or is there no difference. Let’s hear your opinion.

Where you shoot them (farm country vs bush) and how quick it died has the biggest impact, they are pretty close but a whitetail doe from farm country will probably be your least gamey meat. Followed by mule doe, whitetail buck, mule buck.

I'm munching on antelope now. I know this because that is what is written on the butcher paper. If I was told it was MD, WT or sheep I wouldn't know the difference.......and I cut my own meat. Tastes like wild meat

I’m with you on this one. I take good care of my game after it’s down and I’d have a hard time telling the difference between any of them based solely on the kind of Deer shot. The difference is usually seen in toughness and in my opinion that is more related to the age of the animal harvested.
I shot a Boone and Crockett cow elk a few years ago that was the toughest thing I’ve ever eaten. After the first bite I should have double ground the rest. She was old and I’ve see 6x6 bulls that were smaller in body.

Mule deer are almost always pretty gamey smelling in the field but in my opinion they are better eating than White tail. I enjoy both but Mulè deer is superior.

I have had both WTD and mule which had gamey flavour and have both you could not tell the difference between other than what the wrapping indicated. It is the field care which has a lot to do with a quality of the end product.

Both species of Deer are down my list of wild game I like.
I can't say I have ever noticed a difference between the two if they are eating the same things.

I / we find White tail a little less gamey . Done right though a mule tender loin is hard to tell any difference

As has been mentioned it starts from a good clean kill through field prep and butchering..... that said a young healthy animal from either will be tasty

Farmland WT and Mulie are similar although I find mulie bucks during rut can be more rank/gamey. I think good shot placement so the animal bleeds out good is a big factor in the taste of the meat of either. And a nice calm animal makes a difference too..

I like them both just fine, and so does my wife- she actually prefers venison to elk or moose!

There are so many factors for variance in flavor for both deer. Looking back on the last 1/2 dozen between mulies, WT's, bucks and does you really don't know. If there is one factor that affects meat quality it is handling after the shot, getting the guts out and cooling that deer, even if its cold outside. I try to either do the gutless method or get the hide off ASAP.
No matter the taste as long as you utilize the animal to the fullest, sometimes this means making triple garlic sausage instead of steaks.

I think it boils down to feed and handling, more than species.

I agree have eaten everything from prairie does to high mountain old bucks they all tasted like Mule deer, very distinct in taste to my pallet.
All the deer were shot clean and handled correctly in the field.
Whitetails are milder with a different flavor, in my experience.
