I got 2 tags... no explanation or mention of it when I picked up my bundle of stuff from Cabelas.

Planning to call later this week to clarify, but it feels like I'm going to have to find another cow elk.

Relm said if two tag numbers asked for, then two tags are issued. Hunter has the option to kill 2 elk

Please explain.

Only one elk license may be purchased by an individual in Alberta. Period.

"A Resident Adult may obtain only
one of the first six licences."

Elk 39.95
WMU 300 Elk Special Licence 39.95
Either Sex Elk Special Licence 39.95
Cypress Hills Elk Archery1 39.95
Antlerless Elk Special Licence 39.95
Antlered Elk Special Licence 39.95

In theory there could be two tags assigned to a single special license, however, I would skip calling RELM (contractor) and call F&W for clarification. Sounds like a mistake was made setting up the license purchase details - will likely not be an excuse if charged.

Wrong, you can carry 3 elk tags easily. general elk + 212 antlerless supplemental or antlerless special licence making 2-3 tags spanning many zones just off the top of my head. When buying supplemental tags you require 2 tag numbers for the 2 tags assigned to that sweet sweet non draw otc $19 licence.

Yes, 212 is a special case... so I guess I should not have said "Period".

However, you can not buy a general elk AND a special license, OTHER THAN 212. The Antlerless Elk special license for 304 is included in the list I posted, and that is what this discussion is / was about.

I did confirm with F&W. I was issued two tags under one license. So yes, I am complete legal to harvest two antlerless elk in 304 this year.

Whether or not I will harvest two is a different question. As much as I like eating elk, I'm not sure I want to buy another freezer.

I wonder what the reason is for two tags?

Looks like it this year but in the past you could have and in the future there will be more like the base January cow hunts a few years ago if numbers keep up. Always read the regs if your still unsure always call f&w take forum and Facebook advice with caution. There are a few areas where there are 2 tags issued for one licence as the op has confirmed with f&w having a 2 cows down and one freezer is a delicious problem to have could always give away some to friends and family I haven’t seen anyone say no to elk yet.
