Have you guys had this work for mulies too, or just whitetails? Or do mulies even create scrapes???

with the mulies I just glass....follow the doe's....but they do make scrapes just harder to find and generally speaking are a lot less aggressive in nature during their rut period because it seems a lot more drawn out over time....but it will work too....if you can find a coulee or draw with mule deer occupying it then scout it out as you might find scrapes and rubs too....if not and the deer are there then give it a go...make a mock scrape or two and set up game camera's. At the end of the day it wont hurt...plus ya never know.

I made a tree...lol.. well just about. Tied a branch to T post on the edge of a hayfield, with an over hanging branch. Never scraped the ground at all, a couple whitetail bucks started it for me . And now every deer coming into the field checks the branch, does ,fawn and bucks ..whitetails and mule deer

Making mock scrapes and rubs is not really new, I discussed this with my father when I was a kid well over 50 years ago , same as rattling ..
I Also remember reading about it in books by Frandis Sell and Leonard Lee Rue the 3rd , and Sell's book I particular is an older publication.

I don’t think there has been any truly new techniques for Whitetail in a very long time

I hear ya, some of us were reading and studying "old school" and getting in shape for actual shooting LONG before were were allowed to hunt with a firearm!

dam smokey….stay the course...eventually he will make the mistake and hopefully you will be there too.....another one I use to do religiously with stubborn bucks was place a doe decoy out, archery target works too....pin a long piece of paper towel on the arse and give it a generous squirt of tinks on it...wind will move it around and the stench will have the boyz in the hood a coming....if the area is lit up with activity hang on for some action...99 percent I pass on them waiting....but its a beauty show that takes place.

good luck.

No show today but bumped a different good buck on the way back to the truck but no shot. This morning was my first attempt hunting this spot. Will try again in the morning and then back to work for a few days

I have been scouting bush bucks hard since June(well past season too)and there are few areas I have set up that hold good deer. Just now starting to hunt deer really and still waiting for Nov 1 for other spots to open. It’s just a matter of seeing how the season goes now

I now have 4 spots set with mock scrapes to see if they make a difference

Being crown land I don’t want to risk a decoy set up just in case another hunter stubbles onto my set up

Not to mention the attention you get when carrying your decoy in and out...

Curious how you pick early vs evening hunts? During the rut I have had better luck with morning hunts, of course they go all day anyway.

Trying to shuffle with work, was gonna go with evening hunts but with the weather turning this weekend I think I'll change than to morning.

Sounds just like my Sunday! That full moon didn't help either - I walked into my spot without a headlamp it was so bright out. Tons of fresh sign, but everything was in bed!

Beautiful morning though!
