Default Just Bought a 7mm-08

Picked up a gorgeous left hand Tikka T3 stainless with great wood in 7mm-08. I took it to the range today to sight it in. Shot factory Fusion 120gr 1" group and shot Hornady Precision Hunter 150gr ELD-X .94" group. Not bad at all for first time out with it and factory loads. Such a small cartridge compared to my 30-06 and nice shooting. I am wondering those that reload what you suggest for a bullet type / weight . The only powder I have is IMR and H 4350. Most of my manuals show it except for the Barnes manual. No 4350 listed.
What would you recommend for an all purpose round for deer elk and moose in farm land where shots could be 50-400yrds.
Thanks guys

AO member Manitoban has killed moose, elk , and a truck load of deer with an M70 Featherweight in 708 using Barnes 140 grain TTSX bullets out to some crazy distances.

Thanks Cat, would it be safe to work up a load with the Barnes and 4350 even though that powder is not listed in the Barnes manual?

The max load of IMR 4350 I see on my Quickload is 45 grains, but do not take that as gospel!
Check with your other manuals and see what they are using , and start the Barnes deep at the first ring.

Text me, I’ve got some excellent results over the last 20 years of having a few inthe stable.

My favourite pill is the 139 grain Hornady BTSP,

I've exclusively used 139 gr Hornady SST's in my 7-08, but only for deer and they have been deadly out to 400 yds. And I run that load fairly light at 2665 mv using Varget.
This year I loaded some 120 TTSX's with the plan of using them for elk , but never found the elk to test it out on. It did well on a few deer though.
I love that gun... wouldn't hesitate to use for elk / moose , but I would like to keep at 350 yds max for my loads.

Nice scoop if it’s the one from 20shadow05. Dang, I missed the ad….that looked great. I’m loading Barnes 139 LRX over W760 and IMR 4350 in my Tikka 7-08.

Look up the Nosler reloading website. It has all the loads for 4350. My Featherweight loves IMR 4895 under Nosler 150 Ballistic Tips

I had great results in mine with 139 Interlocks and 45 grs of IMR 4350. Wasn't overly speedy but was shooting sub MOA when I did my part...

My 7mm08 always shot 140 gr best, TSX and Partitions both under an inch, and both kill stuff dead.

When you buy from 20shadow05 it is usually in better than new condition. That will be a very nice7/08.

I tend to find happiness with 120 TSX in the 7-08. More speed is good and nearly 100% weight retention offsets the lower bullet weight. At some point, you might want to give Varget and H414 (or Win 760) a try with the 120s.

The Mrs has had great success with the 7mm08, all one and done with Federal Premium factory 140gr Partitions on elk, and moose. Never did try other loads yet as the factory stuff fills the freezer. Plenty of confidence and capability in her rifle. Nice light rig, if the LOP wasn't so short I might enjoy it as well.

Yup, Nosler has data for the 140 E-tip (Expansion bullet), Hodgdon has it for the H4350 on their site too.
I see Hodgdon changed the look their site around a bit, all I do is pick rifle, bullet weight and hit get data, it gives you all the combos for that bullet with every powder they tested that way, the bullet brand and style is now the header for each section that comes up when you hit get data, just keep scrolling down the page in the results.

Wife and son have exact same rifle and I load imr 4350 with barnes 139 lrx and they have shot several elk, moose, deer, and bear with that load and everything has gotten flattened better than my 300wsm. It does severe damage for whatever reason.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m really excited about this rifle. I’m hoping I can make this my main rifle. I paid good money for 4350 powder during this shortage that I want to use it up before buying new stuff.

I'm using 145 g LRX in mine, with RL16 and stabal. Only a short shot spike mule for the son so far with it. The moose stayed out of sight so my wife did not get a chance to try on one.

You should be able to find a load with the H4350 though.

Congrats on the beautiful rifle. I was actually looking at it for the boss. You'll probably take better care of it than she would anyway lol.

I believe the the H4350 is a bit better than the IMR version.

The last load I developed was with varget and 140 gr nosler ballistic tips. It is very accurate, but low velocity. I got the same results as printed in my nosler manual. With the low end being more accurate.

When you get a chance, H4895 is a great powder in this caliber.

Probably Hornady American Whitetail would be among the cheapest.

You will like the 7-08.

I bought the wife a 7-08 REM 700 SPS LH from Bashaw years ago.
Been loading from 120 gn to 140’s, and using it for my second rifle when she’s not on the hunt.

Fantastic cartridge and i've loaded Barnes TTSX in 120 and 140 gr loads. Varget powder was good from memory. The monolithic Barnes bullets are not only accurate, but retain 95% weight upon impact. I find I can shoot a 120gr with 140 grain residual weight impact performance but faster and flatter. Good luck

Just save your money from factory and buy some starline brass. Rusty has a bunch in stock, and get reloading!
