Is there a better gun for the price??
Thanks,

Like millions of others, I have one and love it. These are one of the funnest guns ever invented! While they aren't the most accurate rifles out there, they are more than accurate enough for small game and plinking. Also, there are lots of aftermarket parts (high capacity magazines, stocks, barrels, trigger parts, etc.) available if you like to tinker and customize your guns.

They're a riot. You buy them for the action and then trick them out from there or like mine, leave them alone and shoot the hell out of them. Mine shoots well, stainless barrel, and a plastic stock. Tons of fun.

Had one for 20 years or so. No complaints from me. Just don't like certain ammo but once ya figure out what shells they like , work just fine.

When I was looking for a semi 22 a couple years ago I took a long look at the rugers but I ended up with a Remington 597, laminated stock ss action/barrel. I loved the way it felt like a real rifle when I shouldered it. I read up on both guns a bit as semis can be tempermental and they both seemed like they were equally reliable. My buddy and I were shooting 5 shot groups at 25 yards the size of a fingernail once we figured out what ammo to feed it.

There are not nearly the after market parts and upgrades for the 597 as there are the 10/22 but if you are not going to tinker that is not a big deal. You can get 30 shot magazines for the 597 those are fun! The only thing that I REALLY wish you could buy for the remington is a speed loader. Out of the box it was accurate and I love the feel.

If you have not already you may want to check out rimfirecenteral.com there is a whole bunch of info there!

Good luck, happy shooting!!

There are quite a few websites didicated to this rifle. Check out ruger22.com

I think this answers your question.............OVER 5,000,000 of these rifles have been made since 1964.

i do think there are better choices in that price range. i prefer my marlin model 60 over a 10/22....but it is almost 6 of one half dozen of another.....they are both fun and inexpensive. i just prefer the feel, action and looks of my marlin as well as..sitting side by side by my brother with his 10/22 and my mod 60....far less jams and fte's in my marlin compared to his 10/22...and many other 10/22's that i have used, borrowed etc.

but that is just me....

Clash its the ammo in that 10-22 that makes it jam. Went through the same thing. Or maybe it needs a good cleaning. I never have any jams. Looks for me I just don't care.

You just gotta clean them every 50 rounds or so and they will not jam. Dont get the carbine model, it has no way to attatch a sling to it wich is anoying. I like mine, I cant decide if I like it more than my savage mkII though, the acutrigger makes that savage a way more acurate gun. If I were to buy another 10-22 I would get the target model. My neighbor has one and its way better than mine, I'll probably turn mine into the equivelent but to build a target 10-22 will cost more than just buying one.

Thumbs up

10/22's a great gun!!!

If you do buy one, the first upgrade you should do is a buffer rod.

Get yourself a TUFFER BUFFER!! Cheap...Made in Canada..and they make a world of difference to the action, cycling and stability of your rifle.

You can mount a sling to them, Uncle Mike makes studs for them:

Mine has a plastic stock so to put the buttons on I would have to take the but plate off, its been awhile since I inspected it but it seems to me when I was thinking about that option it looked like it was glued on or somthing. As far as what the clash is saying my 10/22 was a little finicky to get the mag out of as well for a while, all better now though. As far as his opinion on 10/22s I dont know... he is probably the only person I have met that doesnt like them.

like i said they are a good gun, just not what i like. i think they are not as good looking as other guns, fail more often and i don't like their rotary mag......shooting one for a couple of days in cold weather took it's toll on my fingers...hated every time i had to reload the little bugger haha...

Default 10/22

I have one and it is and blast to shoot. I can put 500 plus rounds through it and maby one or two jams. winchester xperts with the big hollow point don't feed very well out of mine or my friends.

Good looks? Well I don't care if they are ugly or not if they shoot well and function well this is my concern.

I love mine. It shoots very accurately. I put a VQ target hammer in it and a bolt buffer. As you can see, it serves its purpose.
