Default Single Shot Defender?

Tell me if I'm crazy.

I have a old single shot 12ga. I am wondering if I would be able to fit it with a sidefolding stock/pistol grip. I would then saw the barrel off to a legal length.

An early forseen problem would be fixing the front hand grip as it would not attach like the one made for a pump.

I think it would be a great gun to have on me while I bow hunt. I would be light, small, and cheap! Alot cheaper and lighter than a new Rem 870 or Moss 500.

I think bearspray has its place, but so does a 12ga fireing slugs. And really, the likelyhood of needing a gun is slim IMO. If I could make this work though, a single shot would be all I need for emergency.

I don't have the make/model # as I'm stuck at work.

Is there such a kit?

Think this would work?

think it would be cheaper to buy a Maverick Security. or at least look for a used one on CGN.

A single shot doesn't make sense to me as far as a self-defence gun goes. If I needed to use one, I'd want more than one shot available! Lord knows where that first shot would be going as I crapped myself! LOL Need a follow-up!!!

I know alot of guys that laugh at me when I tell them I want a gun with me. Alot of people take nothing but there bow. Many others take bear spray.
I prefer bear spray and a shot gun. I think a single shot is perfect as long as you can reload fast.

The chances of ever having to use it are slim. I have ran into so many bears in the woods and they never had a clue i was near.

At least its using the "dust collecter", and it's alot cheaper than $550 on a new shotty.

I guess I will browse the used and see what I can find.

I was just wondering if anyone had done this to a single or not.

Yeah honda I guess that stock would be the only option. The folding stalk/pistol grip + 18.5in barrel would make it illegal wouldn't it?

All guns have to be 660cm dont they?

abrigger let me know the model of your shotgun. Couple of saws may be your answer. Very cost effective. but still have a single shot.

On another note, going through the hassle of getting a restricted PAL and Authorization to carry permit just for bear season does not make a lot of sense to me either.

Ya -you got a real crazy idea going here abrigger!!!

If you want to see all the things that can go wrong reloading a break action shotgun in a hurry, go watch some Cowboy Action shoots.
Unless you want to pack a pistol illegally, you can forget them, you won't get a carry permit for recreation in Alberta.

If your going to carry a bow, bear spray and a gun - at least make sure the gun is the best one for the job. A pump or leaver with all of the clout you can shoot fast approaching targets accurately with.

If ya just want to keep it cheap and challenging - you could save a lot of dollars and inconvenience by just carrying a small rock!

Sorry to sound so harsh but this idea needs to be trampled.
Good luck.

Lol Eldon. I know it's out there. Now tell me what you really think, haha.

So, back to crazy talk.

The model is a Savage Arms - Stevens Model 67 Series E

She's a real beast.

Default Whatever works

I would rather have one shot than none. I think its a good idea, and the price is right, whats the big deal? I'd be tempted to just leave the stock as-is.

hmmmm bear problem... I'm not shooting unless he's close, and charging... high stress situation... and you expect me to 'reload fast' if I don't stop him with the first shot? In theory though, this could work yes?

First off there would have to be a stock that would attach properly.

Then I could saw the barrel so that the length (not including folding stock) is 660cm.

One cheap, light, compact emergency gun to pack around when bow hunting!

Does anyone know if a folding stock & pistol grip kit would fit this puppy?

abrigger I think you mean't 660mm. The shotgun must not be less than this when in a folded postion. 26 inches I believe and the barrel must not be shorter than 18.5 inches.

Oh yes, 660mm not cm.

So, think there is a stock that would fit this puppy? I can't find any stocks that list the beauty as a fit (not surprised).

There are no aftermarket folding stocks for single shots. Guaranteed.

Oh god, this is more pain than is necessary.... restock a single shot? Just buy a cheapo synthetic Remington "Tactical" pump gun and be done with it. Get multiple shots and no headaches. But maybe that wouldn't be as much fun LOL

There is a theory that the biggest advantage to having a gun or bear spray, is that it gives the person the "courage" to stand and face the bear rather than running away.

Those who run away usually get pounced on. Those who stand and face the bear (weather they shoot anything or not) usually test the bears resolve and the the situation cools off.

So "some sort of gun" or a nerf bat may indeed be better than no weapon at all.

Robin in Rocky (That said, I think a short barreled repeater with 4 or 5 slugs would give me more courage)

A .45-70 Guidegun stuffed with 405 grain hard casts launched at 1900 fps let me stream fish with a little less anxiety in bear country for sure.

I'm with you, If I'm in the grouse woods I always carry some slugs. Of course if I see a bear I'd need time to get the #6 out of my gun and get the slugs in LOL

ABrigger
The brother and I did that mod to a coooey 12g SS, It kicked back and pinch the web of skin [thumb] under the action break lever. Which kinda slows the reload time and hurt a fur bit....but your a stubborn man and it is a cool project so check out a tacticle Pig nose. It can allow the stock and 1911 pistol grips among a host of AR parts...that's where I'd start....do it It will be a neat rig...vent rib...rail mounts Hell I might do it after I see yours...chain

here's one scroll down for stuff to bolt on...

Yeah Chain. That is how I see it, is if I could do it, it would be cool. TO have this bad ass single shot with a pistol grip & folding stock!

It will come down to $$ really. If I can do it for $100 or so then I will. If it gets over $200 then I may have to consider just buying some used moss 500 for $300 and being done with it.

Gotta get home from work first! 8 days & counting.
