Default whitetail estrus

posted October 20th, too early? Going up to the 500s will it have any effect yet or will the bucks "smell a rat" so to speak? And just out of curiosity what about mulies? I understand the start earlier than white tails.

Probably too early. Might attract a predator.

saw 4 fork horns in a group last weekend they were sparring. I was in my truck checking cows and grabbed my rattling horns. # light tinkles and they were flat out towards me. They might have had OCD as they only made it 30 yards and started feeding. brought them in from 300 yards to 20 yards. took 20 minutes. I even had van halen playing on the radio!!

you are a full month early for that. slight rattling may work for you. otherwise, sit on travel routes to and from feeding areas.

Opted to leave the smelly stuff behind. Did some scouting today found lots of sign (prints, scat, a scrape, a gut pile...) Tomorrow will be the first full day. I have a bleat can but no rattler and Athabasca is nearly an hour away. Any way to improvise one? Not that I figure it's really necessary but couldn't hurt to try.
