Default Can opener

Does anyone make a decent can opener these days????

I bet I’ve been through a half dozen different can openers in the past year or so, hoping this will be the one...... but nope

Anyone know where a guy can get a can opener that will last? So far only my leatherman has proved to be reliable however my wife would like to use something a little less primitive.

Pamper chef makes a good one and Tupperware has one similar.

If you want the entire lid removed, the Starfrit is great. For an old fashioned can opener that leaves the lip of the can on, Swing-Away is the go-to favorite.

Quit eating canned food, you will live longer.

We have the typical White rubber handled scissor type, have had ours at least 30 years . Didn't know this is another area the quality has gone to poop. Probably made in China now. Have 3 of them, hope I never need to buy another from what you are saying.

Lol! Thanks for the morning chuckle.

The old ones were built to last, my best bet might be to go garage sailing. I’ll make sure my next one is NOT MADE IN CHINA.

Thanks to all for the replies, I’ll keep an eye out for those brands.

Cuts the top off in such a way that allows you to use it as a lid. Works for temporarily storing half full cans in the refrigerator.

Being non traditional in design, it's a little tricky to use the first couple of times.
We've had one for about 5 years. No complaints.

Thumbs up Rusell Hendrix had this in stock

Picked up an OXO Good Grips Snap-Lock Can Opener earlier this year: so far, so good. The wife really likes the latching design, especially on days when the arthritis in her hands is acting up.

LOL too funny. Was just talking about this the other day. Was at a party a few years ago and watched three young engineers try and figure out how to use a hand held opener. Entertaining to say the least. Live at home no life skills and mommy does it all.

Probably why mine are over 30 years old. May not really be better built, just don't get used much.

Starfrit is what we use. Works better then anything else in the drawer. When I leave camping I always take it.

This is a simple but good opener. I am using these for more than 20 years now.

That'll pretty well guarantee you won't be eating any canned food for a while!

I gave up looking years ago... now I keep a Swiss Army knife in a drawer in the kitchen in case I don't have a knife in my pocket. Other than tomatoes and mixed beans we don't use a lot of (commercially) canned food. Getting the lid of a Mason jar is much simpler

The one I have owned the longest is the one from a swiss army knife. It gets used far more than any other too.

Try on old school can opener. You can also pop bottle caps off and cut slits in juice can lids and pull out wine corks. It is based on a fulcrum design so it requires little effort to use. Will last forever.

I find the ones that cut the top off from under the lip spill the juice out all over the counter if the can is filled too much.

The one I most recently bought is the one that cuts the top off like that and that’s the problem I had when I’d cut the whole top off too.

The one I use is a white handled Swingline which was a duplicate wedding gift to my mother in 1972.

Works like a charm!

Mine is a Swingline too, made in the USA, don't know if they still are. Happened to be buying something on amazon this morning so searched can openers just for the heck of it. Guess there is still at least one made in the States. $41 on .ca, $13 on .com. That covers the exchange real easy.

Now that we know that there are lots of great can openers on the market .
I am more curious about the crappy can openers you bought that can't last a year. Or are you opening cans for a living and just using them more than the average person.
