Default 6.5x55

I have some Hornady 129 SP and looking at their load data, it seems rather anemic. I was thinking RL22 as a starting powder and using Lapua brass. I've read that 260 Rem data can be used as a reference for modern rifles. Any suggestions? Rifle is a Steyr Mannlicher.

Stay right away from “ modern loadings”or alternate cartridges when it comes to the Older rifles .
Is your rifle a newer Steyr action or is it a true Mannlicher Shoenauer action?

You don’t have to get screaming velocities out of that cartridge to get great accuracy and to kill big animals cleanly .

I believe Nosler load data is as well. I use quickload so I load up to 60,000 psi in my sako. Great cartridge!

I have a M38 short Husqvarna 1942 and a new Ruger MkII in 6.5 x 55, and load all my ammo for the older rifle. Like Cat says, kills everything quick and clean.
