I could scream...
So I love Ultra Light Rods. No stores stock them past 5’6 and I wanted a 7’ for trout. So after searching all I could find in stock was a Daiwa KAGE. So I got it.
It was more than I wanted spend, alMost triple what others wanted. But again nothing was in stock.
Now the new shimano sensilite’s are in as well as okuma sst and celilio are all in stock over at sail.ca and all for 3x less than the Daiwa KAGE.
I know the Daiwa is a “better” rod but you can’t go wrong with the okuma and I feel a bit funny fishing for trout with a $225 rod.

This is just the way it is. Dont forget you cant compare a 225dollar rod to a 70 dollar rod and expect it to be good. Hang on to what you have and be happy.
I have a 300 dollar gloomis ultralight and I wish it was a fast action. The action is to slow for me. But It is what it is and i'm used to it now haha.

Life is too short to worry about stuff like that.
You found what you were after, when you wanted it, and you bought it.
Sounds like a happy ending to me.

Some people fish for trout with an $1100 or $1200 rod. Are they happier or just flaunting it?

Explain fast action to me. I used to think I knew but I’m not so sure anymore.

It means it doesn't catch fish.....slow action vs fast action depends on the day etc and not the rod
A few time at the lake this year it was one after another so my rod fast fast action...I think that's how it works

Action of a rod is how quickly the tip bends, as well as how deeply.
Extra Fast has a very quick tip but just the tip bends easily.
Fast is a bit slower in the tip but bends a bit deeper into the rod.
Medium, Slow, bend progressively deeper into the blank.
A deeper bend in the rod is helpful to maintain line tension with big head shakes, fishing with braid, using cranks, etc.
On the opposite end is extra fast. Perfect for finesse techniques when fish are subtlety picking up the bait lightly.
Hope that helps.

If you are having a breakdown over this I would hate to see what would happen if you bought an expensive rod. Most of my trout rods are 2-4 times that cost...

It’s not that I spent the money. It’s that I had no other option. The Daiwa is a sick ass rod. It was worth the money, It just wasn’t high on my list. The okuma sst is a proven rod and the shimano sensilite has some good reviews. It’s just no one ever has anything in UL and longer than 5’6.

Dont get stuck on the letters written on a rod. Lots of light and even medium light longer rods that are perfect for trout. I've always considered ultralight rods to be for stuff like baby trout, perch, sunfish etc which is why they are usually short length.
I usually use fly rods for trout but my 7 ft 6 in gloomis light action glx rod makes a world class casting option for trout.

First world problems! It’s only money and you can’t take the rod or the money with you in the end. So I say go get your $225 worth out of that sucker X 100 and go stick it to those Trout of yours dude! The more you catch with it the more satisfied you should become with the investment even though not your ideal choice. Good luck

That is exactly what I am gonna do! Come Christmas, I will get a nice reel for it too, something like a Stradic or the matching Kage reel.

1000 series Vanforth would be sweet. I have a 1000 series Stradic Ci4+ on my 7.5 foot G Loomis E6X Light and it’s a fantastic combo. Actually landed a 28” brown with that rig.
