Looking at picking up a used Bradley Original Smoker
I have a line on a used 4-rack "Bradley Original Smoker" for $200. It's in decent shape but well used. I'm new to smoking and am looking at trying out the hobby. This is the non-digital version. Is it worth picking up for a starter smoker? Or am I better off to save up a bit more and keep my eyes open for a digital smoker - Bradley or some other brand. Mostly smoking beef/chicken/jerky.

If it all works buy this one. Won't break near as often or easy as the newer digital versions. I will never go to the digital if I can avoid it.

My only concern with Bradley is you have to use their pucks, this can get expensive if you do a lot of smoking. If you want to get around that you can pick up an AMAZN tray or tube this way you can burn saw dust or pellets.

Burners in the Bradleys are to small and heat is very inconsistent
Look at a pit boss smoker, more money but from what I hear are way better and use pellets

This!!
I have the bardley and am finally done with the thing and going to get a masterbuilt. I know many guys who have masterbuilts and smoke in -20 when my bradley has a hard time keeping temp in the summer lol.
Bradleys service department is less than stellar to deal with to
Also, pucks are expensive. I use a pellet tube

A lot of people install a second burner the digital PID will support two burners the standard model is not recommended.

I was given a propane master built a few years back.. they are ok but very annoying compared to the pellet grills. I always had issues with flare ups.. inconsistent temperatures.
Spend a few dollars more and get a pellet grill of some sort.

If only I knew I bought mine back when they were the best only to find out later about the heat, the feeder upgrades etc.
I had brisket done on a Trager last weekend fantastic ! soon I get tired of fixing the Bradley I'll be moving on.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm holding off on the Bradley and will have to do a bit more homework before I pull the trigger on anything.

With the original, you will need a PID, with the digital you dont need the pid. Use the amazing tube instead of the pucks. Install a little fan and the heat consistency will be better than any electric smoker without a fan, but the fan can go in any brand of smoker with the same results

None of the electric smokers have consistent heat rear to front or top to bottom unless they have a fan in them. Each one has negatives and positives. Amazing tube smoke generators fix the reloading chip issues with lots of smokers as well as the pucks for bradley. Bradley is inherently weak in the heat dept. I put another element in my 6 rack digital and a fan. I only do jerky in it as thats were it shines, 12 racks at a time with consistent heat and temps. As far a pucks go, the amount of time it takes and cost for meat, Ill pay a bit more for the pucks as I have the longer smoke tube which makes it not convenient for place ment plus there is a much great risk for a grease fire using the tube instead of pucks. Just some thoughts
