Ok. The one call person said telus doesn't subscribe to the one call service.

Pretty sure Telus decided it was better for them ($$$) to repair lines than to locate them. You can get them located via Alberta One Call but in my case I had my basement dug, built, and developed before someone came by to do a locate. Everyone else on the list was there within 2 days of the request.
I found the telus line using the Norwest Alta method.

If there is no conflict, which there typically isn't for new builds as most utilities are simply stubbed into the property, they'll send out an auto reply that can often end up in the Junk Mail bin.
Seems odd, I do alot of these on a weekly basis, and Telus rarely presents an issue.

IT is far cheaper to pay a locator 18/hr vs a cable repair crew.
Just a heads up you are liable for all costs incurred to a utility provider if no locate was done.

I don't know what you are Just saying or why you are even arguing.
I work with locators everyday, they start at $18/hr, they roll solo once out of training, the locator gear is cheap (like $2800 for a 3M unit) and they are typically in Chevy WTs.....
Cool story though bro

They might get paid $18/hr, but the hourly charge out rate for a locator with a truck and gear isn’t anywhere close to that. And not all will work solo.
Source: I see locator invoices (with real charge rates) a lot.

The majority of locators we've talked to charge around $120-$130 an hour for two guys, truck, and gear.
If anyone knows of locators charging out at $18/hr, please PM me!

of course they don't charge $18 an hour.... that's what the locators start at, I said that.
To suggest that a dude with a locator is more costly than a crew of guys excavating and splicing a cable is ignorant.

Cant do depth though.

Alberta one call dispatches Camtel to mark most utilities they also contact most utility companies to mark the line. If damaged or not hooked up will not be located. If you have your first calls when you work (they expire after 2 weeks) and you hit a unmarked line you are not responsible for repair. But you should phone it in.
Shaw cable does not supbsribe to this service if you have shaw on your property they must be contacted separately.

You need to start your ground disturbance within 14 days and it will expire in 30.
if you don't start the ground disturbance in 14 it will expire in 14.
