Default Trail Cam Thief !!!

I like to leave some trail cam in the bush after the hunting season to see which deer survived the hunting season. I also like the winter pictures. But unfortunately, a low life stole my best trail cam a couple weeks ago. My trail cam was on M. Valleau's land in Wainwright where I have permission to hunt. This message is for the thief, if you are on this forum, I just want to let you know that I have a good picture of you taken by one of my other cameras! And know that the day that I will see you in town you will know who I am ! If you are wise, I suggest you put the trail cam exactly where you found it ! if you dont I can tell you now you will lose in the end and it will cost more than just a camera.

Idiot !

If you don't want it stolen then don't leave it out where it can be seen.

Great. Maybe he is bluffing. But calling the OP out for it only helps the thief and not the person who had his camera stolen.

I had one stolen last summer from a very out of the way place where my hunting partner and I have never seen anyone else in 4 years of steady visits. I can tell you I'll sure as shiz have a few questions for anyone I bump into back there.

For threads like this I say bump it, support it or leave it alone. Don't help a thief.

I respectfully disagree, if the op does through the trouble to set up another camera which is usually to catch people stealing cameras then use the pictures. The bluff that is usually posted on here that there is a pic and if you return the camera then it wont be posted is what helps the thief because they are not returned and no picture posted. If you have the picture post it, thats what will stop future thieves that are on this site or word of mouth that the pics are being posted. A bluff that fails is worse than doing nothing about it. Let the Mods decide the legalities of posting a picture but that is part of the solution.

nice bluff, if you leave your stuff laying around with no lock then expect it to be stolen. dirt bags are everywhere these days.

hard luck, buy a steel box, some chains and have a camera watching every camera out there.

I should have mentioned it in my previous message, my goal was not to start a discussion about it. Also the point is not about if I'm bluffing or not. I just wanted to use the forum to get the point across and that's what I did. If the shoe fits wear it !

So what are you going to do about it if you bump into the person in your purported pics? You can't beat them up, and it appears your not inclined to make who they are public, so you won't tell the cops? I still think your bluffing....

the cops wont do anything, if you leave your stuff on public land unposted then anyone can take them and say "i found it in unattended on public land" best case scenario is you might get it back if he wants to be nice or he can tell you to pound sand.

Theft is theft. If it isn't yours, you're a piece of poo. Just because it's on public land doesn't make it a public camera.

Obviously there is no photograph. Not sure why guys think this would work. I wonder if anyone got their camera back this way.

If there is a photo, at least scratch the tard's face and post it. That would make more sense.

Maybe it's a bluff, maybe it's not. Either way, it sucks to have your stuff taken from you. I think we can all agree on that. I had a camera stolen off private property and I can tell you I was certainly ****ed off. I won't spend alot of money on a camera for that very reason.
The unfortunate reality is that there are tons of honest, honourable hunters out there, but there is also a small percentage of dishonest dirtbags roaming around the bush who only care about themselves.
The only blame to be placed here is on the jerk who walked out of the bush with something that wasn't his!

am not saying I disagree with you, but in the eyes of law. he got nothing. a person has to take precautions to protect his property. if you leave the keys in your truck and it gets stolen then you wont be covered by insurance. and if you leave your home door wide open then any dirt bag can walk in.

go drive around ghost, I spot some trail cams while driving on the forestry trunk road. I always stop and wave and hope that owner sees the photo and understands that it is that easy to see it and hope that he or she would relocate it to somewhere less obvious.

What a diverse crowd we have on AO. Lawyers, poker players, security experts, little old ladies pointing fingers. ...Wondrous!!

Would it help if the OP had put up a sign saying 'DON'T TOUCH. THIS IS MY CAMERA" or maybe the landowner needs signage that says "Private Property"

I do know that when I go to the big silly, I never see signs like that, but I bet some folks would get bent if I went in their yards and took their lawn ornaments.

It really should be as simple is leave stuff alone unless it's yours.

Lots of these cameras are stolen. There are usually not worth more than a few hundred bucks. So what do you think should happen to the thief if he's caught?

Would all costs associated with prosecution, including apprehension, and execution of the sentence be justified?
Likely the thief may not have a means of support so they could be put to work picking trash or some public service. Of course the cost of supervising and enforcement would be added to his/her bill.

Pic and name etc. in the media of course.

OP maybe a hug and stern lecture on being a decent person.
