Default Notley in Pincher 11:00 AM tomorrow for Castle announcement??

I just heard from someone pretty reliable that she'll be announcing what the Castle area park will constitute or sumpin.......

I'm thinking concerned sportsmen better show up for the. Q and A part at least.

Anyone hear about this?

Have not heard. Would love to be there but can't. Scary time for local future generations of sportsman and what may come.
Hope there will still be some access.

Same, any sort of elk hunting opportunity now for me in the province will take much more planning if we lose the hunting privelege.

Smile Are you sure about this?

I can't find anything on the government web site and usually for this kind of thing they try to draw a crowd.

This doesn't mean that you are wrong, just that I couldn't find it.

I don't want to discourage you, we need to keep an eye on this sort of thing.

Ok!
Heard it's the Kootney Brown museum.

Any sportsmen that can make it need to be there.

It's not being announced (location) apparently.

Won't be able to make it unfortunately.

I'm a little ticked that I didn't hear about it until today.

My guess is they don't want dissenting opinions at the 'press conference '.

They did the same thing with the first announcement about the Castle. They showed up at the Stone Throw Cafe in the Pass with all their buddies in tow, not even the Town Council was informed they were coming and laid it on us. we did not have much chance to say anything. we have an environment minister who used to be with Green Peace that should say it all.

Exactly. By not having anyone show up it will be portrayed as nobody cares and that it isn't important to the actual users of the area.

That is indeed a huge part of the problem, the self proclaimed guardians of all that is Mother Earth, don't need your opinion.

There does seem to be a policy of pulling this stunt, for that reason. Disgusting, 'democracy in action'.....shameful. But, pretty much what I expect. Luckily, the taxpayer can pick up the carbon tax bill on her fuel to get there.

Get some pointed, clear, questions.

Ask them loudly.

Advocate for the hunting, fishing and camping tradition that the area had and the need to preserve it.

If they say we'll still have hunting fishing and reasonable random camping (10 days monitored).... then..... say thanks I guess.

This just feels sneaky, and underhanded.

This will be very interesting to see the results. Should be a good indication of what's going to happen down the pipe and what they will try and get away with.

Let the lesson continue.

Various conservation groups and "outdoorsman" groups have lobbied government(s) to to protect the Castle and create a "wilderness area" since 1965. Think Ghost, Siffluer, White Goat Wilderness Areas.

Now, because of the cumulative impact of decades of petroleum development, logging, indiscriminate off-road vehicle use, commercial development and government mismanagement, the Castle region can no longer even be considered to be a wilderness area anymore.

The primary goal now for the management of the Castle area will be restoration rather than the protection of the original pristine wilderness it once was. There's been plenty of time and opportunity for stakeholders to get involved with the long on-going "management" planning and discussion processes.

Difficult decisions no doubt have already been made and I applaud a government for finally having the guts and determination to manage and protect whats left, and to do what the majority of Albertans want done in the region.

Trying to disrupt or upstage an announcement event, even if there is one, will just be perceived by the media and the general public as another group of special interest whiners.

If you're perceived as not part of the solution - you're now part of the problem.

Default Pristine....... hmmmmm

Do you know how extensively used the Castle has been used over the last few millennia by humans?

Hm... what kind of 'pristine' are we attempting to restore it to...

You ever been down here Jim? Do you know the ecological history of the area?

I'm very aware of the history and pre-history of the province I was born and raised in.

I'm guessing I've used the area maybe 20 years longer than than you - and you might have even been born and raised in the area.

Again, think Ghost, Siffluer, White Goat Wilderness Areas - but the Castle will never be "restored" to that level - or even to the level you've seen it decline from in your lifetime.

So enlighten us then.

This area has seen thousands of years of human use... camping... use of mass fires for hunting (pretty common tactic).....

This area has been shaped by humans for a serious long time.... what 'point of restoration would you like to see..?

Comparing what goes on in the Castle area with OHV compared to what I hear and see elsewhere across this province, if they start with the Castle, the rest of the province is doomed. Yes there is abuse, but I think people were better behaved this last year than I have seen in the past.
