Thumbs up

My adopted home.
I think of:
Dry jack pine creek banks . Berry pcking.
Grassy meadows left behind in the wild north after a beaver dam gives up the ghost and a new pond etched out of the landscape by a beaver and a whole bunch of poplar. Opportunity for a moose??
Huge spruce trees in the old growth. Awe inspiring and humbling.
Jack fish that could eat a dog...
Big rivers and hidden gems ... Love the little creeks and grayling holes.
Long spring days and bear hunting in some beautiful big country.
Whitetail moving through the poplar beds on a cold frosty November morning.
Beautiful mountains and rolling hills. Big prairies.
That moment of realization. Fresh air and the sounds of nature. When you grip your rifle tightly and realize you are living in the best place on earth .

Friends.

I have tried to make Alberta my home, but my heart will always be in BC. That being said, every where I have lived in Alberta I have made true friends. From Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer/Sylvan, St. Paul to Cold Lake and points in between I have met people I can stop in and have coffee with, go fishing with, and more years later. You don't find that in most of the other places I have been. People are friendly and nice everywhere, but to actually become friends is rare.

The Op really got me to thinking. I tried several times to answer but couldnt come up with any one thing. And if i started a list it would be way to long. I had to really think this through.

Then it hit me. Its really just that feeling a guy gets when driving out on the road and looking around and thinking wow what a beautiful place this Alberta is. And i get to live here.

Opportunity, misunderstood, and home are the three words that come to mind when I hear the word Alberta. Opportunity for us east coasters to find work, not only in the oil and gas industry, but also in education, health care, law enforcement, government, trades and in the private sector. Misunderstood, because of all of the B.S. negativity and stereotypes about Alberta and Albertans that I heard growing up from people who moved back east. Home, because I have moved to Alberta twice in the last fifteen years and I can't think of any other province I would rather spend the rest of my life in.

I've been to every province in Canada and lived in a few of them. Been to almost every state in the USA.
Enjoyed them all but nothing feels better than coming home to Alberta.
If I won the lottery tomorrow and could live anywhere in the world, I'd travel a lot but I'd still live here.
Home.

Best place on planet to grow up. Prairies to mountains. Go where you want. Nobody shooting at us. Nobody bombing us. I thank my 90 year old parents weekly. Home.

Evening ride on the back of a decent horse
Saskatoon picking/eating.
Exploring a river for bull trout and grayling
Camping in the hills with pine/spruce trees and burning wood
BBQ with friends/family.
Travelling, one of our best holidays was camping along the foothills doing all of the above!
Lots more to explore yet here.

I was born and grew up here, unfortunately we like/need to do these to recharge the batteries so to speak. Now days gotta go further and deeper into the hills to find your peace.

The older I get my winter activities get less, lol

I was born in Saskatchewan. Moved to British Columbia when I was about 12 years old, and loved every minute of it.

When I found out that we would be moving once again, this time to Alberta I was completely devistated. That changed quick. I love this province and mention it every time I can. It has everything that I had grown to know in one. Beautiful prairie that I knew from growing up on the grandparents farm, and the gorgeous mountains on the other side. I met my wife here and would never change a thing.

I consider Alberta my home province and there is nothing that can change that.

Presently disalusioned. The best place I have ever lived, up until a few years ago. Never before have I felt so abandoned by the leaders of a province. I have never had such a difference in option at all levels of government as I do now. I really have a hard time trying to figure out where these people came from, and who they are. They are certainly not the day to day albertans I know.

When this nightmare ends, I hope there is something left of the Alberta I knew and loved. Depresssing.

Endless swamp Spruce forests, Moose, homesteads, wilderness trappers, and oil.

That's what I think of when I think of Alberta.

Granted there are not a lot of trappers or homesteads left, but there are a few, of both.

This New Years day, one of the last homesteaders I know went to dig roots in that big homestead in the sky. He will be missed.

An ugly, depleted province nested between beautiful BC and similar but slightly better Saskatchewan. Too many people came here for easy money. Fishing is crap, hunting is OK if you can manage to get a tag, everything is getting too expensive, bad government, ugly cities, too many immigrants, and the native population are just OK.

Born and raised here and whole family is here but we're considering moving in the coming years. Maybe I'm just pessimistic about the gov these days?

BIG BUG!

I see the best province in the country being destroyed in front of my eyes by a certain political party.

I was born in the CNP lived here for 69 years. Many years ago I left for six months and went north of Prince Rupert. Developed such a bad cough from all the rain that I had to leave. A few weeks after coming back to southern Alberta the cough went away and I hope i never have to leave Alberta and go through that again.
