Fresh potable water.
Let's erase the border to sask and call the new province "perfection" .

Default Alberta to me is...

The place I have busted my chops in for the last 17 years. When I got here I overheard a couple of oil exec's in an elevator talking and the question was "how you feeling about $20 oil?" and the reply was "I am happier than a pig in his own filth!" and that was back in 1998....yes it got over heated and the wages did also....and then just like back in the early 1980's we got all of those "Eastern bums and creeps" (Ralph Klein) that moved to Alberta to take advantage. Now they are the first ones leaving when the going gets tough just like back then.

I grew up here in Calgary on the tough streets of Bowness and I had to parially endure the NEP and I cut my teeth the hard way via hard work.Middle of winter I got the dishes done and then I put on the snow suit and slogged around for blocks on end.Knock on the door/ring the doorbell...door opens..."would you like your side walk shovelled for dollar?" in -20 and at the age of 9(I had a serious lego addiction) and I dont think I ever got turned down because people liked my moxie and it was damn COLD.

I have worked damn hard for 17 years since I came back to Alberta and I dont like the winters....nor do I like the downturn but I will keep my nose to the grindstone.I bought my first home here and I sold it and then bought the marital home and that got chopped in half with a divorce and then I bought my 3rd home and I got it paid off by not buying expensive toys and being a wastrell thinking the money would never stop flowing(well I did buy a few toys but nothing as frivilous as a $40,000 5th wheel). It is tough and nasty right now but that is when the tough get going and shoulder the burden and watch the parasites leave.....and good riddance to them.

To me an Albertan is somebody that stares the evil potatoe of injustice in the eye and says SCREW YOU....yeah you just bring on a stupid socialist NDP provincial government.....I and EVERY other Albertan that does not like it will kick them to the curb come the next election.....perservere and be resilliant and do the best you can.

Been in Alberta 10 years as of last September, it's my home now. I miss Newfoundland every now and again and think about moving back, but it's usually around the holidays or when there's a family event or a death or something. But it usually only last a day or two and it passes. Sure, times are tough here right now, but it'll get better, I'm here for the good and the bad.

When you say Alberta, I think home, Freedom, the sweet smell of crude and diesel exhaust in the morning.

Born and raised here. I have traveled all over the world, but will never leave this province. When I think of her I think of wild roses.

Alberta was my first introduction to the best country on earth (IMHO).

My father sent me over for a holiday in 1980. Landed in Edmonton, and was picked up by family who farm in the High Prairie and Peace River country (my paternal grandfather's brother & sister homesteaded outside Peace River).

In 1984 I came back as a student at the University of Calgary, thought I would give it a few years ............ I am still here

Seeing as I've lived here my entire life, I guess the only thing I can say is "I don't know any better!"

Many things to many people . Born and raised here , will die here, buried here.
To me it's the smell of dirt in the spring , growth of a new crop, wheat ,canola , barley, peas , or oats.
The smell of wild mint in the newly cut slough hay, when the breeze is right and its ready to be raked and baled.
The taste if cow sheet , and the pungent stench of a new brand on this years calves.
The sunset on a hard day , the beautiful sunrise the next.
It's Alberta .

The sound of Web Wilson tongs latching up on a tool joint
Fun trips to the mountains
2 stroke smoke in the morning in the foothills.
'Berta is good when you want it to be.
