To reverberate other posters - Canada needs its own version of Donald. Best of luck to him!

On a related note: I had to drive through Downtown Edmonton today. It seems that there was a protest at the Legislature. Is it about Trump? I couldn't find anything through Google. I'm not on Facebook. Any information would be appreciated.

Probably part of the angry women crusade going on all over the world. I think they're upset about Trump pointing out that gold diggers will let wealthy men get away with almost anything.

There were a lot of protesters... I started seeing them around 109 st and Jasper ave all the way through to the High Level Bridge and beyond. As I've said, 80% or so were female... Does anyone know what was the point of the protest?

Sadly, this is not from "The Onion":

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2017/01/2...t-donald-trump
Quote:
The march was widespread but the message was focused.

“Women's rights are human rights,” called organizer Paula Kirman, answered by thousands of people crowding the grounds of the Alberta Legislature Saturday afternoon to take a stand for women's rights and Canadian values of equality for all.

Between 2,000 and 4,000 people joined in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington and hundreds of sister rallies happening around the globe.

“We are gathering to say loud and clear that we will not tolerate discrimination, we will stand in support of all of those who have been and continue to be the target of hatred and closed minds,” said Alison Poste, who organized Edmonton's rally with Kirman and Michelle Brewer.

Carrying signs and chanting, the crowd stretched from the steps of the Alberta Legislature past the Annex Building easily overwhelming a handful of Donald Trump supporters.

Demonstrators marched around the reflecting pool outside of the Alberta Legislature while elder Taz Bouchier drummed and sang a Women's Warrior Song.

Kirman and Poste said divisive language popularized in the last American election has already had ramifications locally, pointing to a surge in Islamophobia and gender-based harassment experienced by female politicians.

Nakita Valerio, vice president of external affairs for the Alberta Muslim Public Affairs Council, took direct aim at Trump's election for fanning the flames of hatred, saying he was “legitimized in his hatred and misogyny and propelled to the highest institution of the most powerful nation in the world, and we will oppose him and all echoes of him at home.”

“Hatred will not live here, oppression will not be tolerated, injustice will not be served today,” Valerio added, before the crowd responded with thunderous applause.

Marni Panas, local LGBTQ activist, echoed Valerio's sentiment.

“Your sexist, misogynistic, homophobic language gives others in society a moral license to do the same,” said Panas, calling on demonstrators to be vigilant in decrying divisive hate speech.

“When you don't take a stand against sexism or misogyny you stand for it. When you don't speak up to hate and intolerance, you give people permission to turn their hateful thoughts into words, and hateful words turn to actions,” she said.

Linda Duncan, MP for Edmonton-Strathcona, said that while Trump may be America's president, Canada has it's own issues of enduring inequality. She called for better access to affordable childcare and pointed to disproportionate poverty and violence experienced by aboriginal women.

“We need to be angry too about what is happening here,” said Duncan.

While organizers agreed social justice is not achieved in one day, they hoped the momentum generated at Saturday's march would inspire further action against injustice.

So much fail. I believe Trump is the first American president to take office supporting gay marriage for example. First winning campaign lead by a woman. etc etc.

As for women in Canada. Every advantage in the world, and yet these clowns (the one's at the protest...not women in general) want more. The gender gap in Universities is something like 60%women to 40%men in Canada.

Wow. Thanks for ruining my evening, Ruga...
I laugh when Western women scream "Islamophobia". They have no clue as what the Sharia law means. I've spent time in the United Arabian Emirates, and I can tell you that in that part of the world, women are less important than camels...

Very well said. The American people have had enough of the clintons the Bushes and Washington. To the people protesting, well you can always leave. Finally America has an alpha again, instead of a lymp @#%&.

Don't tell them to leave because they always talk about going to Canada and then you'd be stuck with them. It's like when California said they wanted to succeed, I asked where I could send a donation to.....

I just might drive my Muskeg to Alaska and claim refugee status in the next year or so. Hopefully Trump won't outlaw Canadians from seeking asylum due to our deranged government!

The traffic was painfully slow down 109 st. I saw a number of lumbersexuals among the angry women. As I said, I couldn't establish the cause for the protest. Eventually it clicked in... Trump, the Devils son in law!

I was getting tired of the BS being posted on Facebook so I posted this today. Apparently everyone is getting sick with the whining about Trump and it went over well even with people that I know are Liberals. :

"To all my Liberal Facebook friends.....

Stop having a meltdown over Trump getting elected and turn your attention to what's happening in Canada. Between unemployment in the Atlantic province and now Alberta, cultural intolerance in QC, people having to chose between having electricity or putting food on the table in ON, the gobbermint policies taxing the hell out of us and driving corporations out of Canada, etc, etc, etc.....I think that we have enough of our own problems to deal with! Clean up Canada and THEN worry about Trump in the US......Okay?"

I want to know when they are going to give Trump the customary Nobel Peace Prize that comes with winning a US election?

After all, he is the first non-career politician to do it. Way to break the glass ceiling for the rest of us non-politicians!

Absolutely have to commend Donald Trump and his Minister of Health. To get all those fat chicks out and getting them to go for walks is amazing. Can't believe the progress this new government is already showing in its early stages. Bravo!!!!

Well, I wanted to find out which "womens' rights" are going to be taken away by the Donald. Apparently the whole uproar is because he's a pro-life president and he vowed to make abortions past 20 weeks illegal. Also he doesn't care for Planned Parenthood and their fetal tissue selling ways.
The rest of the noise that these women are producing is based on speculation. I read 4 articles on the subject and every single one states that "A lot could change for the worse with Trump as President and a Republican majority in the Senate and the House"
It seems that a lot of the "sister marches" also focused on LQBTG2 and "Islamophobia" which have very little to do with womens rights. What a joke.
If anyone has any additional information, please post it up.

Yes, strangely huge numbers of brain washed idiots marched to protest policies that have not even been formulated and may never be, all while ignoring real abusers like Bill Clinton, Saudi Arabia, Iran etc.
It must be nice living without a clue about what happens in the real world.
