Yup. Happens. Heck, more years I come away without an elk than with one. This year was no exception. Just increases my resolve to work on getting more access. But that's not usually something you get the day before you want to hunt. You start in the spring, and some places I have access for took me a number of years of persistent touching base. I have asked for access during a season, but it's been pretty rare.
