Default How useful is. 5 year warranty on an Air Fryer?

We bought a Hamilton Beach Air Fryer just under 2 years ago. Use it almost every day. Hinge is failing on the door so I sent a note to the company about the warranty service. I had the 5 year warranty info plus my receipt.

They were great at getting back to me fast like.

Today they sent me a list of authorized repair places. Only one is in Alberta. It’s a 4 hour drive to Edmonton. You would think given Calgary has a larger population that it would also have an authorized repair place. Nope.

Curious now what they will do.

Not sure about the warranty stuff. But I did read that air fryers should remain unplugged when not in use, as some, ( not sure which brands), have been starting on fire when the power comes back on after an outage. Good luck with the repair....

Default Limited Life Span

We’ve gone through one so far. You have to meticulously clean the interior where the fry tray fits in. It accumulates with grease and other cooking stuff and once it bakes in, difficult to clean. And the screws tend to get loose on the fryer tray so keep a small Phillips handy to tighten up. 1st one cost around $160 and after 2 years tossed it out, bought a new one they for under a $100. Although my comments likely don’t help your repair situation, your choice would be ship it out or toss.

Deal breaker for me would be the turn around time when you ship it out for repairs. Will it take 6-8 weeks to get it done? Can you live without it for that long?

We have gone through 3 Kalorik Air fryers in 2 years. Oven closing mechanism fails. Throw away junk from China.

Ask them if they cover shipping to the repair shop.

Calgary the city itself has a larger pop than Edmonton but once you factor in all of the surrounding communities with 30mins the population between the two is about ~1.5m each.

I'd as well ask them about shipping to/from. Either that or perhaps the AO pony express.

Default Might not be worth the repair cost

Pick up a gourmia brand air fryer from Costco it was on sale for $50 . Has the costco warranty just bring it back for any reason. And they will refund it .

Is that a 5 year extended warranty from the manufacturer?
Or did you buy an extended warranty from the retail vendor? (usually worded along the lines of "to take effect after the manufacturer's standard warranty period expires")
If it is a vendor supplied warranty, take it back to the vendor for satisfaction.

It’s from the manufacturer. Bought at Canadian Tire and they had a one year through them.

Now it’s just through Hamilton Beach

My first step was to ask if they can send me the part and instructions on a repair. It would be simpler and cheaper for both of us.

^ It is unlikely they are going to send you any parts. It is even more unlikely that they are going to pay for shipping. While it would be cheaper for both of you to mail the parts, it would yet be even cheaper for them if you do not repair it at all. Also, they are not likely to take a liability for having you potentially get hurt while attempting to fix the device or using it after the fix.

That is why the 5-year warranty - the probability of absolute majority of consumers using it is virtually zero. Shipping costs usually are significantly higher than the device is worth plus turn around time, etc. are they going to pay for return shipping? That isn’t a given either and they will likely say that it would also be your responsibility. Might as well give a 10-year warranty because it will end up in the garbage/recycling once it breaks the first time.

P. S. But it would be great to hear if you get sorted!

Had a Hamilton beach popcorn popper stop working in year 4. Contacted them and was told to cut the end off the cord and a new one would be shipped out. Maybe something small like a hinge is easy to fix versus a heating element or something electronic going.

Looked at that Costco model in store and it’s the same cheap hinge.

Isn’t one for $50 and what they have has poor ratings.

Avoid cost and aggravation . Crush it and get a new one.

You're missing the point of buying it at Costco.
If your HB Air Fryer was purchased at Costco, after 1 trip back to Costco with the faulty product, you would be enjoying either a new Air Fryer or would have your money back!

That is true… but will they take back a 2 year old unit a year after the warranty ran out?

However sometimes it pays to just be polite and ask questions.

My recent email from them appears to be offering a full replacement option. Once I know the details I will post. I didn’t ask to have a replacement. They appear to be offering on their own.

Email received this morning. They are sending a new unit at no cost.

So far impressed.

That's great! So, in your experience, a 5 year extended warranty can be useful.

I am leaning that way. Yes. 😉
