Default Electronic muffs

Looking to buy a new set, lot's of choices these days what is everybody using?

I prefer electronics for the range better to communicate without removing them, if somebody pulls out a cannon I have a heavy duty set of non electronic to use.

Just picked up the walkers razer quads I think on sale at cabelas. They have a few different versions without a lot of explanation on the differences. I’m enjoying them so far and I think it was like 70$ so not too bad. Not sure if it’s still on sale though. Not sure I’d pay the full 120 myself

The 3m PELTOR muffs are very popular, although a bit more expensive than many are.

I was using Howard Leight Impact sport ,found they didn't fit me all that well, went back to regular muffs for comfort.
The issue for me was the plastic covered foam rings, I found a replacement set of foams the US guys were using to solve the problem, won't ship to Canada, still have them though.

I was looking at these for $100 same protection as passive muffs

Default howard leight

I bought these as well as the as the Razor ones mentioned for sale at Cabelas. The Razor pair I think I got on sale for 69.99 in the fall. The Howard Leight Honeywell were from Amazon I think for about 95$?
Used them both this past season.
They both seemed equal when sighting in rifles outdoors in terms of ability to hear conversation and muzzle blast cancelation.

The Honeywell set were better for my ears when riding on a side by side. The Razor ones seemed to have more difficulty damping out the engine noise vs transmitting it in an annoying on-off-on-off way.

Thanks for the reply as you mentioned besides shooting good electronic muffs have other uses, power tools, dirt biking the sound amplification is perfect sitting in a blind and they keep your ears warm.

Default muffs

I am 50 now and noticed my hearing changing 2-3 years ago. I don't have any occupational noise exposure, so its guns, chainsaw, quad, power tools, etc, in terms of what I can block out from now on. The Honeywell muffs this season allowed me to hunt without removing them whether in the side by side, in a ground blind, walking bush, etc.
If they quit working, I would buy another pair tomorrow am
I look geeky wearing them, but I only have the hearing I have left, so....

I'm over 60 now worked in noisy environments my whole career, shooting back in the 70's ear protection was cotton wads or cigarette butts, I'm trying to save what I have left.

I am a Peltor muff fan. Their Tactical Pro electronic ones work extremely well.

No more Pelton for me.
The ear pieces cracked way sooner the than and would be expected.
Glad I didn't spend the $ 80 replacement because one side quit working before I ordered them.

That link won't ship outside the states. Where did yo find those here in Canada as they are exactly what I was looking for. Most of the other electronic versions only dampen 23-25 DB. As the scale is exponential, that is a huge difference. Thanks.

P.S. Re-read a couple of posts, found them on Amazon.ca for 97 bucks. You have to watch as they also advertise the Honeywell sport much cheaper but only 22 DB reduction. I ordered a set as I have never found another with 30 DB reduction.

Mine are supposed to be here Friday. Will be interested to see how they work with the 338-378 with the brake on it, when it gets here from the smith.

the Howard Leight have worked excellent for me. My hearing is bad already. With the old style it was always lift one side and "what's that , what's that" aggravates people but aggravates me more when people talk to you with ear protection on. Now no problem. Shoulda had them years ago

I've had the MSA for about 6 or 7 years now. Very comfortable with the gel cups, can wear them all day at courses. Good electronics. Kind of a premium price, but I like them a lot. Still in excellent condition, never had a problem with them. Buy once, cry once. Made in Europe, not China, if that makes a difference to you.

I have had a pair of MSA's for 8 years and no issues to date. As Twisted Canuck states "premium price" but well worth the money spent! I purchased mine from SRS Tactical located in Bearspaw just outside of Calgary.

Msa Sordins with gel ear cups for sure. Have all the others mentioned sitting around for loaners. I shoot a lot and have not cared for my ears like I should have. All others I have to wear custom in ear and still not comfortable to shoot for for hours. You pay for what you get yet again. We only get one chance at ear health. What is $400.00 in this sport ? I still double up with in custom in ear plugs with the MSA's. Groups are way better when the brain is not getting rocked with gun shot concussion's. Hard to describe how much better they work . Spend the $, my guess is you will eventually anyways.
Cheers

The MSA ones I can find listed show DB reduction of 19 on some models, highest was 22. What is the NRR rating on the models you guys are using because 22 DB is on the low side for a relatively expensive muff, even if they are made in Sweden.

This article explains how ratings are done. Where you want the protection from gunshots is where MSA works really well. I had to do some reading on this before I purchased them. Didn't like the lower rating than other brands. Once I researched then made more sense.

Excellent info but the Honeywell muffs still out score the MSA Muffs across all of the frequencies. I had looked at the test chart results before commenting above. The Honeywells significantly outscore the MSA in the 200-1000 HZ range where braked Magnums are a problem. All in however the MSA look like great muffs and very well built. It appears many of the major armed forces use this product and that is a solid recommendation on all its own.

many good suggestions here...

I have zero experience with muffs of any kind....

Can anyone comment on the neck-band style vs conventional top-band? Also looking at a pair of Sordin but want to purchase only once ... thanks
