Yup it's an excellent rifle, I have mine in the 7mm-08 . I bought the soft touch when it was new on the market but I just recently put a bell and Carlson stock on it.

They are a good rifle, with a couple slight improvements over a tikka. Still have the plastic bolt shroud and magazine, but it has the metal guides in the magazine which is where you'll see any wear with the all plastic magazines, and they have a bigger ejection port. I think the smaller ejection port on the tikka is a stronger design which may be one of the reasons those tikkas are so dang accurate. They are accurate and reliable, I wouldn't hesitate on owning another one.

I have a Sako A7 in 7mmRM, purchased about five years ago as my primary (only) hunting rifle. It is accurate and trustworthy. I have bashed mine through bush and it has taken a few bangs from me slipping on hidden logs or ice. Rifle has always remained true. I really like my A7, but wish I would have purchased a full Sako rifle instead as it's now hard to upgrade as the A7 does everything i've ever asked of it!

I have 2 friends with them, both in 7mm RM.that I did some load development for.
Both have a fair mount of recoil(more than I expected and could feel it in my shoulder after 5 rounds)but very good groups with reloads.
My one friend put on a limbsaver and that tamed the recoil down.
They seemed to be light and overall I think they would make a very good hunting rifle.

I have a Roughtech Pro in 300 Win Mag and I love it. I've taken it out to 500m and have put groups on steel inside 5". I have no complaints about it

Bought a nephew one couple years back in the SS model pkg deal with Burris scope in a 270WSM...he loves it.

A hunting buddy 2 years ago bought the Roughtech Pro version in 300WM...sweet rifle.

You will be happy with either.

Me, I am picky since I bought my first Sako m75 rifle back in 1997...its what I LIKE !!

I have a roughtech in 300 win mag. I loaded up hand loads using H1000 and barnes 180tsx. I seat them to mag length but like a tikka have a long troat so don't expect to be close to the lands when reloading. dosnt seem to matter for the accuracy in my gun as it shoots 1 moa or under. Does have a bit of a kick and I bought a limbsaver for it which bolts on fine but does not line up perfectly with the curve of the roughtech stock. The action and trigger are smooth. overall I would recommend this gun to anyone looking for a good hunting rifle.

got a great deal on one a couple years ago in the package deal with the Burris E1 scope in 300wsm. Very nice rifle, smooth action, excellent trigger. the supplied low rings caused issues with expended brass hitting the scope and falling back into the breech. a set of medium rings solved that. very accurate in all I have tried in it

Had this same issue when i owned my 25-06. Had to put high rings on.
They are a great rifle, and the only one i truly regret selling.

There is problem in A7 with COL as magazine in 300 Win Mag will limit length of the Cartridge.
OK if you shoot factory.

I guess the longer case required the high rings? I initially assumed it was the overly large turret caps on the E1 but swapping scopes didnt do a thing. Then i thought the fat wsm case might be it. Med Warne rings did the trick. One in 2506 would be a great rig

I have an A-7 7mm-08. I used it last year for two deer. It shot better than my previous 7-08 which was a model 70. If I had to complain a bit, I would want the rifle a little lighter for this round.

Well you guys all helped me decide... I'm going to pick up a .300 win Roughtec Pro

What scope are you .300 guys using?

I'll post a picture when I've got it all setup. Everyone loves pictures right?

I would definitely recommend you check out the new leupold vx-3i. Great glass, and no issues holding zero, and in the slim chance you have issues, warranty is dealt with mostly in Alberta!

Default Sako A7

I have one in .300 win mag...with a 2.5-10 x 42mm Steiner on it, with Warn rings (the warn rings were key in holding zero)...also put a limb saver on it, and last season put a Kalix Teknik adjustable cheek comb on it. All I can say is...Awesome! Love the rifle, and the cheek comb looks like it was made for it...adjustable and looks factory. You can't go wrong with a Sako...I want another one

Great choice.

My friend has a Leupold VX2 4-12x40 with the LRD reticle mounted on his 300wm Sako RTP A7.

The scope was on sale for $300.
I have the same scope on my Sako m75 243.

3-9x40 or upgrade to a 3.510x40 or 4.5-14x40 in a VX3. The BC reticle is sweet. I have a few mounted on Sako rfles.

Guess it all depends on what you want to spend.

So I picked up the A7 RoughTec .300 Win Mag with a nikon monarch 3 (2.5-10)

Originally I had a Vortex Viper (4-12)but it was broken out of the box and I changed my mind.

Love my A7 in 7-08. It's a tack driver.
