Default New river/stream suggestions?

I always fish the Sheep and Highwood rivers. I've done the Crowsnest a few times. I used to enjoy Three Point Creek but since the flood it's a mess, at least where I fished it west of Millarville. Bow a couple of times.

I have a hankering to fish a new stream or river, no more than 90 minutes from Okotoks. Has to have some public access and I have to be able to take my mutt. Any suggestions and rough general locations? Not looking for specific honey holes. Have been thinking about the Livingston. I figure I can just drive the trunk road and hopefully spot some fishing locations.

Extend it to 2 hrs drive time and you can fish anywhere south of caroline. Hundreds of spots.

Livingstone and Oldman can both be great (though a bit busy - I prefer to go mid-week). There are some spots on Cataract Creek that can be good (but you need to get away from the road). Lots of the streams along the FTR have good numbers of trout and can be fun with a light rod and a selection of dry flies.

Some of the tributaries of Threepoint have some decent fishing...but are pretty choked since the flood.

I hit the livingston for the first time yesterday and had no problems finding hungry fish, even with my water slapping abilities. It's gorgeous down there, dog friendly and lots of good water to fish.

As a bonus, I hit bear pond on the way for super fun grayling fishing.

The Livingstone has some nice sized fish and they're always hungry! I would deffs recommend it if you've never fished there.

The Oldman system upstream of and including the gap has more water than one could explore in a summer. As a general rule in the area, the smaller the water, the smaller the fish, but they all provide great opportunities. Have fun!

Thank you guys. Lots of great suggestions! Nothing better than finding a pristine stretch of stream on a beautiful day and matching wits with a fish... and usually losing. LOL

I've been meaning to try Barril creek just south of Highwood House on the FTR, haven't had a chance yet...

Hey there guys, from further north and have never fished the sheep river, I was looking on the maps and noticed there's some campgrounds I was just wondering is there places along the river to camp publicly for free on crown land, like I do along the trunk road?
Thanks

Not off the road like on the trunk road. There are parts you can hike in and backcountry camp though

PM if interested and maybe we can line something up

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm driving down for a one day trip on the Bow. I'm thinking of extending it to two days.

Some of my options I've been pondering:

1- highwood river at Longview
2- Livingstone
3- crowsnest

I would be on foot if that matters any.

Can anyone help me decide?

There are a number of campgrounds beside the Sheep, but they aren't free. Sandy McNabb campground plus campgrounds in Black Diamond and Okotoks.
