Best mid range price scope for Dangerous game

Have a 375 H&H and was wondering what others recommend for a dangerous game scope with a reasonable price.

Have two 375's...one has the common Leupold VX3III 1.5-5X20..The other a much more expensive Nightforce 1-4x... Lots of suitable scopes out there but I gotta say I really like that affordable compact leupold and it takes little room once taken off with quick release rings as needed...Very good eye relief as well, my Xbolt is quite light and recoil is stiff! A low-powered Zeiss Victory Diavari with red dot. The eyebox is huge, the glass is superb and the mechanics are flawless. Buy one used if you can find one.

That's pretty far from mid-range price.

OP - get a red dot, as in a Leupold delta point or maybe even an eotech.

I have a Sako AIII in 375 H&H. It sports an old school Leupold Vari-X III in 1.5-5X20.

If it's price ,it sure isn't Zeiss........distance and cost would be a straight 4x Leupold with heavy duplex crosshairs

I agree on the vari x 111 1.75-6 will cover most needs..and quick detach rings from a reputable company like Alaskan Arms !

Used to make a M8/3X I'd look for a good used one and have Korth put a heavy duplex in it.As for quick detach mts. it's unlikely you will be able to remove it in time if being run over by something that wants to kill you.Scopes nowadays of quality don't fog up or fail.Back up irons are never a bad idea JIC

I know I won’t be using my .338 win mag for dangerous game (other then grizzly) but I’m going to buy a monarch 3 2.5-10x42 for it. I looked and researched and I talked myself out of the fixed powered 4 or 6 scopes in detatchable rings and having irons as well. I’ve never had a scope fail on me that I had to use irons only while out hunting and don’t see a scope failing while on a trip. So a low powered variable is what gets my vote.

My 375 Ruger sports a vx3 1.75-6 in Alaska Arms QD rings. My testing shows you can shoot tiny groups taking the scope off and reinstalling for each shot. I have seen basically zero change in point of impact.
It was very reassuring on my BC coastal grizz hunt to be able to remove the scope in a rainstorm while following up on a shot in very thick coastal vegetation.

Trijicon accupoint 1-4x24 runs around $1100-$1300 probably the widest field of view in it’s class and can be had with a German #4.

And it’s not even that “tactical”. If the look matches your rifle might be worth a look

Vortex crossfire ii 1-4x24 vbrite. $380. The scope is absolutely awesome.

The centre point can be illuminated from dim to bright for fast acquisition in all light levels.

At 4 power magnification you can even use the spaced crosshair as an extra holdover point for if you are gonna ever take a longer shot. 308 win with a 200yard zero and then the crosshair line tip is exactly 300 yards. 375 HH has similar trajectory and would very closely match that.

You can get quick detach rings if you are concerned mud or something will overcome your ability to use an optic. Irons are not as fast or accurate as a properly set up 1 power optic.

Vortex lifetime guarantee if it ever gives an issue.

If you want higher end glass, the strike eagle 1-6 is $450, Viper Pst gen 1 1-4 is $700, and the Viper pst gen ii 1-6 is $1000. The weight of the scope goes up as quality increases.

I have all of them and they are all excellent for their price. If I find another space for a scope, it will be the value and quality of Vortex that will sit on top.

A lot of the older folk with double rifles, that can't/won't mount scopes on them, have been installing Doctor sights on them instead, they seem very, very happy with them. An when you consider that dangerous game is shot well under 100 yds for the most part, that is all you really need.

I use the 375 as an all round gun and I want to be able to use it comfortably to 400 yards. With that in mind I mounted a Leupold 2x7 with Boone and Crocket Reticle and Leupold QD rings. I tested the QDs, they return to exact zero every time and the open sites are set to be dead on at 75 yards, which puts them dead on at 25 also.

VX3 1.5-5 or 1.75-6 has long been the benchmark for an affordable DG scope.

Just a FYI for those who might be looking for a Leup FXII 2.5 - I've had one on order since early December 2017. Talked to a Korth rep at the Easter gun show in Calgary and he mentioned that these scopes are not a high priority for Leupold as they are not in high demand (I'm paraphrasing here). Leupold is still making them but the Korth rep couldn't say for sure when they would ship.

Yup, they are great. I have one on my 416 ruger, has the red triangle post for a reticle. It is excellent

No chance I would every rely on the King of breakdowns on a game rifle let alone and dangerous game one. Someone handed me a gun with a Vortex on it in DG country it would but off and down to open sights in seconds.

I owned that scope. Anything that could be called a DG rifle would bite your skull with the dismal eye relief that scope possesses.

I'm pretty sure anyone firing a rifle that is in a cartridge that meets the definition of "dangerous game" would desire more than sub 3" eye relief. My diamondback came unglued on a .350 Rem Mag and it could not be fired above 3x or it would smack you. I can't imagine it standing up to a .375 or a .416 of any sort.

It's a poor recommendation.

Nightforce NXS 1-4x24. Love mine and it only cost around 1k, that was when our $$ was a par though.
