Default 2018 elk hunt

This year I decided to get out of my comfort zone and I applied in a six point draw zone with lots of points so I knew I would get the tag. After spending the opening week looking for rutting elk we never seen any elk or fresh elk sign. Went back out after some snow fall for another four days and after 50 miles on horseback still never seen any elk or tracks. So I come home thinking I should have just stuck to my general tag and usual zone. Last Saturday the wife and I planned on going into camp for the week to spend some quality time together... So we ride to camp and drop our supplies for the week and got settled in. It was snowing like mad so we huddle up in the tent. Around 3pm the snow sort of subsided so she says let’s go take a quick look see. Back On the horse and up the mountain we go... Around 4:30 we reach the tree line so we get off and tie the horses. So we put on our packs and begin to make our way out of the bush. Well I didn’t make 20 steps and I look to my right and there’s a bull elk laying there staring at one of the horses we tied up!!! So I take a look and can’t tell if he’s got the six or not... Now I wait.... he turns his head I see the six. BANG. I shoot and he disappears down the hill.... IMG_0279.jpgIMG_0280.jpg
