Default Looking for .38/55

Does anyone know where to get .38/55 for a decent price? A friend of mine inherited an old Winchester (I think it was) from the 1920's and is looking for some ammo for it. What he's found was priced $20-40/box of 20.

Is there anywhere that offers better, or is that pretty much it? I'm getting the impression that this caliber is on the rare side of availability.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Only Winchester offers it currently. Its very underloaded as well for safety for the old rifles that are out there. If your friend found .38-55 ammo for 20 dollars if I was him I would have bought up the whole shelf. The Winchester stuff I see is 38.00 to 45.00. Its a great caliber to reload however!!!

You have to be careful with this cartridge/rifle combination. The barrel/bore diameter varies a lot. Check to make sure the ammo will shoot well before you buy in bulk.

Winchester CXP-2 is the most common, I have found old boxes of remmington in a few shops... My old 38-55 would keyhole the factory stuff but bullet barn offers some oversize cast boolits that cured that.

ProLine Shooters in Calgary carries both Black Hills Ammunition and Winchester brands in 38-55. Supply is hit and miss.
