Fall River walleye fishing
I’m planning to head out down south for some river walleye soon but river fishing is way out of my zone. I’m wondering if anyone can help me on what should be working this time of the year and where they should be stacked up(not asking for anyone’s spot but should I be looking out for structure, eddies, etc)

Bait on the bottom during the evening when the temperature drops should do the trick. Most of my spots are on private land, but the bridge going over highway 36 on the Bow can be decent. Also, the bridge near Steveville on the Red Deer can be good from what I’ve heard.

Bait on the bottom, slider rig , good bait, primetime fish from around sundown until the wee hours for more and bigger size. Getting home at 2 to 3 am is our normal time and usually have some nice catches. October is getting close.....

I'm expecting it to start heating up right away with this cold weather we're experiencing, but you're right, late September early October is the sweet spot.
Most of my success is from 8 P.M. to midnight.

We were out a few days ago and it was still slow. We got a few but not the usual fall rush and size. Water was still pretty high and very warm too.

I'm going off of the previous two days of 3 and 4 degree nighttime temperatures. Hoping this weekend will be decent, though the recent rains may not help.

The rivers are thick with shinner minnows right now. The water was boiling the other night during a bug hatch. That's why the bite has been slow, lots to eat. Trick is, fresh minnows out of the river. The walleye aren't going eat stinky bait from the stores.

Care to share how these shinners are caught? General areas, gravel, mud etc. Thanks!

Schools of minnows have been coming close to shore right at dusk. We have been doing well with a minnow net just wading around the shore line Mostly a gravel bottom. Nice 2" to 3" shinners.

I’ve been hitting Bassano but to get a good spot you have to go a bit earlier in the day. I’ve caught a decent amount of walleye with the odd keeper. Thanks for the help guys. I’ll definitely have to try some new spots as the season starts to heat up.

Fall River walleye
Caught a pike and about a dozen nice walleye in the Battle River last night. Best bite about 45 minutes before dark. Stayed until it was dark, but the bite dropped off later on. The fall fishing is starting to get good now.

Fall walleye
Same bite as last night. 19 walleye and a pike. Dropped off just before dark, but I might have had my spot picked clean. LOL. Love the fall season! Going to try at dawn tomorrow. Can be just as good or better sometimes.

The bite was pretty decent on the Bow last night. Water was high and murky, and the wind was blowing, but we did well. Kept a limit between two people, and caught about 13 fish total, and lost half of that as well. All were walleye, with the exception of a nice sauger and a big red horse.

I should also share that I had success with adding a spinner and beads to my slip sinker bait rig. Normally, I use 20lb fluorocarbon with a single hook. Knowing the river would have some current, I tied a few spinner rigs with a hook coming about 2 inches off of the spinner, and another hook at the end of the line. The presentation was fantastic. The extra hardware created some tangles in the net, but I was happy with it overall.

Doing good on the nsr for eyes. Lots of 30-40 fish days. Quality is starting to pick up.
