Default Elk down

Here's my bull from opening day. From a popular foothills wmu...
Young, 4x4 but as far as I'm concerned any bull elk is a trophy. I've already ate some of the meat and it doesn't disappoint.

236 yards, double lung and he ran about 20 yards.

Couldn't be more happy.

Best of luck to all the Alberta elk hunters.

Well done.

Looks like a fair bit of snow out there. Not much of it left here in Central Alberta.

Elk hunting as good as it gets. Add a bull down even better. Congrats! Well done!

It was as good as you could expect. Not too far from the road, took about an hour to hike in to that spot. Three of us with good packs and a sled. Only one significant hill on the way out. Left the quarters on the bone.

The best part, the bull died at 10am. We were having a beer at my place by 5:00! Better than the usual 1:00am crawl into bed tired.

LOL, does anyone ever really give up on chasing elk?

Sure makes whitetail hunting seem downright leisurely!

That was last week. I imagine the sunshine has knocked back the snow a good amount by now.
But I just read the ski resorts are opening early, some today.

If I had your WT skills I wouldn't waste my time hiking and sweating, then sitting and freezing looking for raghorns!
