Default How bad are the roads?

Had a hunting trip planned for the next week but hearing that the road conditions between Whitecourt and Spirit River are very poor.

Is it worth attempting the trip or should we risk being stranded or worse, in a collision on the hiway?

Where does the road info on 511 come from if it’s not driver usage? Guessing!? Possibly I guess.

There is a layer on the 511 map you can click on and it will show live cam shots overlooking highways. The cam shots might be a couple minutes old. There are quite a few around the province. I'm sure 511 has different monitoring stations all over the place too.

I know you want actual driver road info so sorry to keep on 511.

A friend called from Edmonton to cancel our deer hunt today, because he started out from Edmonton, and turned around due to the road conditions.

Well I sure hope the 15min drive from home to Edmonton airport is good flight leaves at 10am for Mexico. The better question is what kind of shape is the runway gonna be in. Maybe I should take my snow shovel to help clear the runway.

Came back from elk hunting last night, most of the bush roads had half each of ice, you could not stand up on them, needed chains on truck just to stay on road. Highway from Fox city to Whitecourt not bad just wet after sanding.

Then once you get off the highway the back roads are not frozen underneath the snow.

Yesterday hwy 20 north of Sylvan was sheer ice, hwy 53 from Rimbey to hwy 22 was sheer ice. Then hwy 22 north of 53 was sheer ice.
Not snow covered with ice on the shoulder as indicated in 511.
