.270 projectile recommendation?
Curious if there's a projectile weight & construction in .270 Win worth looking at as a general solution deer, moose & elk. If that's a fool's errand, what's your favourite projectile for deer and for moose/elk?
Just want to get an idea where to begin.

I used 150 grain speer grandslams for all big game. Even for coyotes as it was an accurate load.

Try a couple variants, some will shoot better out of your rifle than others, I've tried many different rounds threw my .270 and find that, the Winchester power max in 130g works best. I'm lucky because this is a affordable round.

130gn nosler partitions will do the job. If you don't reload Federal makes trophy ammo with the partitions.

130 grain accubond has great results in a tikka t3 here.

I'm sold on the performance of copper solids. That's based on other people's firsthand accounts & some of my own experiences.
side-note: Found a .243 caliber copper projectile a while ago, cloverleafed, that I'm sure passed through a telephone pole.
I believe it was a 90gr bullet to start, and I weighed it at 89gr IIRC. 99% retention, and opened up like it was supposed to (pedals were sharp too).
Barnes makes TSX and TTSX (polymer tipped) copper solids in .270, the TSX offers 130 / 140 / 150gr variants but the heaviest TTSX is 130gr.

130 Barnes TSX - I've become a fan of the monolithic bullets over the years.

if you can find then Winchester 150gr XP3's
they are basically the old fail safes with a polymer tip.
My next experiment with bullets however will be with the Hornedy GMX or Barnes TTSX. I think the copper mono metals will be the future as soon as lead is banned here. Plus I want to hunt in CA in the near future so getting ready in advance lol

I've known of people using as well as using myself, all to satisfaction the following projectiles.
100 grain Barnes X originals.
130 grain Remington Core Lock.
130 grain Winchester Silver Tips(Aluminum tips)
130 grain Hornady Spire Points.
130 grain Sierra BTSP.
130 grain Nosler Partition.
130 grain Nosler Accubond.
130 grain Hornady Interbond.
140 grain Hornady BTSP.
140 grain Nosler Accubond.
150 grain Hornady SP.
150grain Nosler Partition.
160 grain Imperial KKSP.
160 grain Nosler Partition.
The underlying premise is to let the rifle choose which bullet it prefers.
And yes those old 100gr X's even took moose, and they would out penetrate a 130 Partition as well.

.270
I like the 130gr bullets in either Partition,Swift or Grand Slams. The old red box Hornady bullets were great but not the ones made in the last decade or so.Bullet blowup and jacket shedding are common occurrences even in slower velocity calibers like the 9.3x62. I called Hornady and of course they denied any bullet changes [first I've heard of it] when I know several buddies had contacted them with the same concerns. They have cut corners somewhere with their interlocs..........I scoop the old style at gunshows when I find them.Your mileage may vary...........Harold

IMO that is one of the biggest strengths of the .270, I think more than a lot of similar rounds one can achieve a slightly better single bullet compromise. Plenty of good options out there, most of the better 130 grain bonded, monolithic, and partition bullets are plenty tough enough for moose and elk, mechanicaly locked 150's have worked very well for me. From there there's plenty of room to go up.
I personally use 150 grain coreloct or fusion bullets because I'm cheap, from what I've seen on deer I think the 130 grain Fusions would work well too. A neighbor uses 150 grain partitions, I know quite a few who use 130 grain partition, accubond, or barnes bullets.

270
I have shot a 270 for close to 15 years o have never personally been a huge fan of 150 grain bullets out of it. A well constructed 130 or 140 grain with my preference maybe being given to te 140 if ur loo king for an elk or moose or ju st an all around

I preferred the 130gr accubomd my son had in a .270 win. Never shot a moose or elk. But everything went down.

Hard to beat 130 gr pills in a .277 including Partitions, Accubonds and TSX or TTSX.

The 270 Win is easy to please. H4831 and a 130 gr bullet is a great place to start.

Bullets
The Ruger 270 that my son and I shoot has always like 130 gr bullets.
Tried some 150's they just didn't group as well.
130 gr Partitions are tough to beat in this gun.
If it was me starting out I'd try 130 NPs and 110 TTSX

Yeah, shooting 150's out of a .270 sure does suck... its almost like (shudder) a .30-06.
