Bought my kid the 2050 and he loves it. His buddy bought the 3800 series and it is a dud. Locks up or something when it gets wet I believe was the problem.
I would recommend the 2000 series if you wanted a Sage as they are cheaper and ours has seen lots of use with out any issues. I have not personally used any Sage reels so take my advise with a grain of salt.
I have a 3850CF (not sure how different it is from the 3800), I have mixed feelings about it. The reel works pretty good, I haven't had any lockup issues like the previous poster, and the drag is still in good shape. However I treat my gear fairly hard and always think that's its one of those reels that would banged up pretty bad if you dropped it (luckily i haven't had any major accidents with it ). I bought some of the CF spools, and dropped one on carpet and the knob broke off.
