Ford F-series trucks being targeted: police
EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is pleading with owners of pre-2008 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks to use steering wheel locks or install alarm systems to protect their parked vehicles.
Police say the larger models in the Ford F-series, specifically those built before 2008, are being stolen more and more often in the city.
The EPS wants to stress to owners that they need to properly alarm or lock their steering wheel column of their trucks. Police say thieves have found ways of overriding the standard locking devices in older models.
Since the beginning of 2013, 184 F-250 and F-350 trucks have been stolen within city limits. Police say that accounts for slightly more than one per day. In rural areas, the number almost doubles.
F-series trucks are among the top four most commonly stolen vehicles across Canada for 2012.
In Alberta, eight of the top ten most stolen vehicles are Ford F-series trucks. The remaining two spots go to the Dodge Neon and the Acura Integra.
Police are not just worried about the theft itself.
“While the truck thefts alone are highly troubling, what makes these crimes a higher risk to the community is they are generally stolen by drug addicted property criminals, who are more likely to engage the police in reckless and highly dangerous pursuits,” says Acting Insp. Malcolm Allan, EPS Downtown Division. “While we do our utmost to maintain public safety in these instances, there is an increasing trend of these vehicles being driven at extremely high rates of speed and in the most dangerous fashion, whether police are actively pursuing them or not.”
In addition, when an arrest is made in connection to truck thefts, police are finding a “disturbing increase of drugs and loaded firearms in the trucks.”

How about clubbing the crackheads, then we wouldn't have to club steering wheels.

So, this flashing red light on my dash that tells the world my "passive security system" is operational, is just draining my battery.

A few less fords ain't no big deal and it may even help in some ways, most every ford driver I ever met seemed somewhat defensive and a tad on the irritated side.

Those makes and years of truck have been high volume targets for theft for over 5 years.
Just now the EPS says something.....?

No chipped key, and they punch the door lock, reach in with needle nose pliers.

maybe defensive because Fords can literally haul more than any other truck? Therefore its straight up moronic ignorance?
I love the putz dodge owners and their girlie coil springs. Can haul about a quad....that's it.

LMAO.. Maybe they should equip the Canadian Army with Ford. It's kinda why the First Nations people liked ride Appaloosa horses into battle... by the time they got there they were good and ****ed off and lookin' for a scrap.

Of course the Ford F-150 is most stolen truck, there is huge market for parts to keep them running and most people can't afford Ford's prices. Hence all the chop shops just love F-150's.

Actually, Ford pays guys to go around and steal their trucks. Creates the impression they are desirable and there's a huge market for them. I can talk, I own a 2007 F150, but it has a chipped key that you have to have two of to make a copy. Seems secure enough to me.

Ah, so this is why the insurance companies have been charging more for F-150 insurance. Heard they charge more for Ram's, too. 2013 data.

Could it be a common vehicle because simply there are so many f150's on the roads.

Happened to me last year, downtown. Lost all of my new truck manuals and GPS not to mention the cost of a new key lock. Second time they borke the drivers glass, security guard saw them but of course no luck catching them.
