Default Deer Rifle - CHALLENGE

Something for everybody here. This CHALLENGE gives participants the opportunity to showcase "groups" shot from their favorite sporter weight deer rifle.
THE RULES
Rifle - no restrictions other than, it must be "deer" legal in Alberta and have a muzzle diameter of less than 0.75". So, anything from Rossi Ranch hand to "custom".
Rest System - No restrictions, so off-hand to lead sled.
Target Requirement - One target panel for each distance entered that includes a picture (or facsimilie) of an animal. This target picture can be hand drawn or a photo-copy --the purpose here is to discourage the posting of "old" wallet groups.
Distance Guideline - A target panel can be shot at any distance as long as the distance is recorded on the target --so, 100 / 200 / 300 M --- or whatever distance you feel you can make a clean kill.
Group Requirement one five shot group on each target panel. No three shot groups please. You can post as many targets as you want, at as many distances as you want.
POSTING GUIDELINES
** Post a picture of your target/group. No measurement required unless you want to share group size.
** Post a picture of your deer rifle and give some details.

NOTE: THIS IS A CHALLENGE ONLY, NOT A CONTEST. THE INTENT IS TO POST GROUPS AFTER THE CHALLENGE WAS ISSUED.

I will post a "sample" to act as a guideline.

Here is an example--- This target shot at 300M -- It was my maiden voyage with this rifle at 300M, so I expect to improve the group..which was just under 2" C-to-C. Rifle pic to follow.

Just back from the Range (June 8) where I shot this lonely 5 shot group at 100M. Did I say I was happy with this rifle?

Hopefully you don't have to shoot a deer between the eyes to kill it.

Here is a 5 shot group I shot from my rifle at 480 yards while I was doing some trajectory validation.
The shots on the top and left opened the group up to two inches.

The rifle is a Remington 700 SPS DM. Bullet's are168 grain Berger VLD's.
I had the factory synthetic stock replaced with a Bell and Carlson Medalist varmit/tactical (adjustable stock) The factory action and barrol are bedded to the stock.
The 4-16x50 Viper HS scope is mounted with Night Force (medium hight) rings and an ATRS 20 moa Picatinny rail.
Had a Timney trigger installed at 2.5lbs to finish it off.
The gun is fairly heavy. With the Haris bipod in weighs almost 13lbs. But I carry it through the bush.
The reduction in felt recoil allows me to spot my own shots.

Ever have a shooting session that didn't go as planned, or am I the only one? Decided I needed more magnification to see bullet holes out to 300M so changed my scope over to a fixed power 25X... Get to the Range this AM and it is a bit windy but it is coming pretty much down the chute so will be OK. Set my targets up at 200M (and used a stick on orange dot for an aiming point), got zeroed...holy crap...mirage is making it near impossible to stay on the dot. Knowing the Lord doesn`t coddle cowards, I start shooting. Nothing I could do with the mirage because of the fixed power scope.... OK, out of excuses and time to shoot. It is what it is!!!

Couldn't leave it alone so went back this evening to shoot at 300M. No mirage, but the target board is now in the shadow and still can't see bullet holes. Shot the deer on the right first ...up to 300M ...to find out where I am hitting ...1 click up and another 5 for the deer on the left. Getting close to the 1/2MOA I am expecting from this rifle, but I obviously need more trigger time. Anybody else plan to take up "the challenge"?

Good on you NoBiggie. Give it a whirl. By-the-way, the "animal" requirement on the target is just a way to discourage folks from posting groups they shot at sometime in the past (before the Challenge was posted). No one gets marked for art work or group size. The animal you draw/photocopy on the target does not need to be the point-of-aim like mine --- I just thought it would be neat to see that beady eyed deer in my crosshairs.

Hoping to get out tomorrow and try it on ugly deer target

Was out testing my handloads on Saturday with some good results at 100m. The lonely hole was me doubting myself

Thanx I had put 4 in centre but doubted myself that I was that tight so shot the 5th low to make sure that I was still hitting the target.
I'm use to the cheap bulk ammo that I have, handloads make a huge difference

Worked OK in he field where things are never like the Range, but the 30BR did the job at 180M. Decent 4 X 5 WT buck. Pulled off the barrel after Xmas and decided to re-chamber to 6.5 X 47L with a #2 Krieger. It should come in about 8 lbs and I may use it for deer next fall.

sureshot, tighten up that load or you'll end up gut shooting a deer.

They never count on the internet.....
A man and his rifle are only as good as the biggest group they shoot with it.

Relax, when you post a pic of a five shot group that's 1.25" then circle only four of the shots and write down .654" it would appear to most viewers that your ignoring the true size of the group. Not that it matters but when you put something on the internet for people to comment on, don't get upset when they do.

it says right in the photo it doesnt count. the 4 are circled as a group with a measurement and the one is discounted from that group measurement. someone rightfully pointed it out i wouldnt be so touchy its no big deal

also dont they count the same side hole edges instead of across the group to discount bore size making circled group .374

Sureshot ...looks like your rifle has lots of potential .... The OP asks for an animal type target (to get shooters out for this specific challenge ...just a way to discourage wallet groups). No need to post anything with group size. Go out and give it a try....look forward to seeing your efforts.
