Default Anyone finding good source for leeches in Edmonton this year?

Looking to pick up leeches in the next couple weeks and wondering where to get them?

Cabelas didn't have any today, I bought at the fishing hole about a month ago. Been out a couple weekends, I change the water every week, and when fishing I cut them in half so my 18 pack has lasted.

The retail sold type leeches all come from Minnesota and you know how border stuff is going. There are a few locals I see in a few FB fishing groups doing them privately and look pretty nice too. Do your research.

I have pretty good success with the scented artificial ones. Seeing as I can't keep Walleye without the extra cost of a tag. Use and re-use. Also get some Perch on em when they are hungry and stupid enough. Maggots also. Problem is artificial bait don't feed the fish. They will never get bigger. Hope they poop em out. LOL

Stopped buying leeches a few years back. Where I'm fishing the walleye are hitting hard on beef heart. We used to use it years back then started using leeches (back when they were cheap) We hadn't used beef heart for a decade or two and tried again three or four years ago and it's been working great!

I suggest giving it a try. Might save you some $$$ Those leeches are expensive!

I’ve had good luck cutting beef heart into strips 3-4” long and with a bottom bouncer and spinner rig it’s deadly. We often get 5-6 fish before having to change the bait. Works good on a jig too

I've had the same experience. With leeches, you might use several to catch one fish. With the beef heart, you catch several fish with one piece more often than not.

We've just been using small pieces but I recall in the past using long thin pieces that sort of looked like a leech with good success.
