Default Salmon limits V Island

I am fishing Port Renfrew end of August. I was wondering what the salmon limits per person are? I find the regs confusing. Not sure what they are on the north end of the island and Prince Rupert if someone could explain it for these regions? Thanks

It is always confusing and what is different about BC salt are regs are often changing and not updated until the last minute. Really need to know what "area" your fishing. If talking springs, a lot of those areas you mentioned on van island are currently closed to retention. There is anticipated opening either July 15, or Aug 1 depending on area, but won't know until just before those dates if it will happen for sure. Need to watch for max size limits and dailit limts of 1 in areas too.

But some areas also also open right now. Like the very north tip of the island and west side has some opportunities.

By August the regs should be updated for Renfrew and you can figure it out for your trip.

Download the Fishing BC app on your phone. Everything will be up to date and you can see the regulations for each species at each region/town you're fishing out of.

When they closed the season on Chinook retention this June, they only gave 3 days notice.

DFO doesn’t worry about what’s fair to the guides or to the general public. They only worry about there being enough salmon to feed the southern resident Killer Whales and that enough reach the river so that they can be netted by those with a gold card…
