When someone is winding up a conversation with you and they say "any-who", makes me want to cut my ears off.

Miss, I suppose. I'm not sure why I hate "ma'am", makes me feel old in a sense. And I'm not, so maybe it just sounds really out of place for me.

"Old School"

and

"Near Miss" I hear this all the time through our health and safety department.

If you nearly missed hitting something does that not imply that you actually hit it?

I assume it originally came from a comparison to an upholstery hammer, also known as a tack hammer, which has a much smaller head for greater precision with small nails than a regular hammer. That's my guess anyway.

What if it starts with a big shoulder drop and a sigh and then: "Well to be completely and totally honest with you...."

The whole "Absolutely" thing sets my teeth on edge. Another one I can't stand is "gunman". I suppose that the media finds that term to be more shock-effective.

I probably would drive most of you nuts... I'm very suggestible. Put me on the phone for 1/2 hour with one of our clients from "Dah'n Saath" and Ah'm-a unconsciously pepperin' mah talk wit' "Dad gum!" at the dinner table. My poor wife and kids.

Same happens when I'm overseas, I'll start speaking english with whatever the native accent is after a while. If I can speak the language, chances are I will be doing a horrid version of the local dialect by the time I leave.

Dad would stop short of cuffing me when I would constantly inject "like" and "you know" in my conversations during the 80's. Still pops up now and then.

At least now I know why Redfrog was wincing when I talked his ear off the other day.

"hi guys" usually at the start of a thread. sounds like your trying to sell something that's not palatable.

"lads" rings hollow unless you are a very close personal friend, your name starts with mac/mc and your family members wear colourful wool skirts.

"boys" when referring to men over the age of 12. while we may act and think like boys,it is not ok to refer to us as boys,we are men. unless your female, then it's ok. lol

"boy o boy", henry waszczuk's favorite phrase when explaining what ever comes to mind or lack there of...lol

finally, a catch phrase that has become very common on wild tv. i'm knot sure who started it,potts maybe helgie, but it is total disrespect for the game we pursue. that phrase is "smoked him". is it used to describe how they, the superior hunter, was able to defeat the game they were hunting by some how defeating his senses by smoking him? fair chase?

In the middle of a conversation some-one adds " Blah,Blah,Blah. Like they want to lengthen the story or conversation but can't think of anything meaningful to say so to fill up time/space they add " Blah,Blah,Blah. or ' so on and so forth '.
