Default Crown F.L&W Access?

Hello,

I'm new to the Red Deer area and I've been doing some preseason scouting, seeking permission etc. On the county map there are some quarter sections of land that are labelled Crown F.L&W (in green like other crown land). When I go to the recreational access website the land isn't highlighted in green like other Crown land. Anybody know what the difference is? Where or from who would I seek permission or is it off-limits? I think it may be land owned by the fish and game association, but am seeing if anyone knows for sure.

Thanks.

those quarters that are marked as FL&W are actually Buck for Wildlife lands, they are accessible,no permission reguired.

I don't think that is right.

Clearwater county (around Rocky) has some green 1/4s with "Crown L&F" on them. I asked the public lands guy and he said it was just the way the county did the maps. He said it was no different from any other crown lands.

L&F probably stands for Lands and Wildlife
FL&W probably stands for Foretry Lands and Wildlife

Both were one time names of the department that is now called SRD, Sustanable Resource Developement.

Not necessarily Buck for Wildlife lands but most would be open to access, although many do have conditions of access. There is often a sign posted.

the particular area in question is one of the earlier Buck For Wildlife areas. it does have a sign that describes the property and the restrictions that are in place. they have even installed a foot access gate with chain clip so that outdoorsmen who frequent the area don't have to mess with the usual wire fence gate or climb over barb wire and it is a statement unto itself...lol

aze for the "FL&W" it maybe that county officials have never had reason to update the info on their maps, regardless it is public land bought or maintained with monies from your license purchases.

i am speaking of one particular area, there may be other lands in the county or other counties marked as such or similar that may have different restrictions.

so as not to confuse anyone, you may see signs that say buck for wildlife at entrances to farms and ranches. that does not indicate that their lands are accessible, only that they have done something to protect or improve wildlife habitat on their land.

I went out to the land in question tonight and it is posted as Buck for Wildlife, but yes, another section of land I found has the same labelling on the county map but is not buck for wildlife but rather AFGA. I've learned lots the past 2 days in my travel and map research. In northern alberta where I have hunted most my life there is no buck for wildlife, ACA etc land. Tonight I researched the ACA website and there are several areas of land in the Red Deer region. I've got lots of exploring to do! Actually did a bit tonight and almost got carried away by the mosquitos.

Thanks NAIT for your help.

Only sort of related...

Are you getting your county map online? If so, where? I have been looking for them!

Thanks in advance.

Go to the county websites some have a link to their maps.
Otherwise SRD has a link that shows the green areas and all the leaseholder contact info.

Tried to get the SRD link for you but it seems to be down.
