Default Fallen Alberta peace officer near Priddis and the MD of Foothills :(

http://www.globalnews.ca/breaking+al...303/story.html

Quote:
A rural peace officer who was badly beaten and dropped off at a southeast Calgary police station has died of his injuries.

He has been identified as Rod Lazenby, who worked for the MD of Foothills.

RCMP said he was driven to the District 8 office on Friday morning in grave condition and was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

He was pronounced dead on arrival.

RCMP and Calgary police secured a number of potential crime scenes, including a rural residence near Priddis and the MD of Foothills vehicle that the officer was driven in.

The man who drove the officer to the police station has been taken into custody as a person of interest but so far no charges have been laid.

Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Solitictor General Jonathan Denis released a statement Friday afternoon. It said, “It is with great sadness that I express my condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Foothills Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby.

“Tragedies such as this remind us all of the selfless acts peace and police officers make to protect our safety each and every day. On behalf of all Albertans, I want to recognize Mr. Lazenby for his service and assure his loved ones that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.

Just disgusting and so tragic. Very, very weird case:

Quote:
Sources said Lazenby was "ambushed by the suspect, handcuffed and severely beaten."

"He was lying in wait," sources also said. The suspect then threw Lazenby in back of bylaw SUV and drove him to the district office in Calgary.

When he arrived, the suspect entered the police station to make a report that someone was trying to steal his dogs. Calgary Police told him that it was an RCMP matter.

"Then, he took officers outside to show them who was trying to steal his dogs," said a source.
This guy must have some sort of mental problems.

That is very sad. Obviously the assailant is a nut job. Mentally Ill would be an excuse in this case.

I feel very sorry for Rod's family right now dealing with their loss.

An unarmed peace officer, alone, likely did not have much of a chance.

The perpetrator obviously has some significant components missing upstairs to beat a peace officer to death and then bring the body to the police in his own patrol vehicle, expecting them to arrest the deceased "guy who was trying to take his dogs". Mentally ill or not, anyone who does such a thing is using up our oxygen. Condolences to the victims family and friends. Crazy McScrewloose is gonna lose it yet again when he hears all his dogs are surrendered.

He'll be receiving lots of hateful glares and little sympathy, but everyone will treat him professionally, despite the fact most would love to assist him in falling down 83 flights of stairs in a 9 story building. They all have lives and families to get back to instead of getting themselves incarcerated.

I had to look up the Freemen reference myself, but don't put this guy in with them, as one of them would not have brought the 'trespassing dog-stealer' to the police.

I wonder what the simpleton did for a living, as I'm pegging him in about the same category as Mary's little brother Warren in "Something About Mary", just without the humorous aspect.

Nothing wrong with using lethal force to defend your property or your possesions. Yet, he was was not doing that so the two do not equate. I do not think the cop was going there to take the dogs away.
