The Bushnell elite 3200 is a great value for the price.

Just remember these two things.
Quality control equals extra cost so you get what you pay for.
Warrenty in the States is a crappy way to go, what ever you buy make sure they do the warrenty in Canada.

But at double the cost of an Elite 3200.You could buy two elite 3200s,and have a second as a spare for the price of the VXII.

I have looked at both the 3200 and the VXII. I must say the VXII is more expensive, but you do get what you pay for. I got the 2009 optics catalogue and it seems the VXII's have the Multicoat 4 lens system, which i'm sure must make for better glass? I also like that the VXII has much better eye relief than the 3200, it's also a little shorter and lighter. I live in Ontario, so warranty is no issue.
This will be my first scope, (and hopefully my last) and I hear so many stories about Bushnell and Leupold. I know alot of people have there favorires. I just want a good quality scope that has good low light, that is clear and crisp with no black crap when I look through it.

why not a vx1? i cant tell the difference between the two and the one exept in the pocketbook, and for the average hunting rifle they are perfect and cost effective.for an extra 20 $ get a lr dot upgrade which is incredibly close to your 270 ballistics. all this and a lifetime warranty and plenty of eye relief!

I had 3 Elite 3200's. I took them all off of my rifles and replaced them with Leupys. Buy the good one the first time, and you won't need to spend more later to upgrade. The 2-7x33 Leupold or the scope that RPS has would do you very well. Good luck, Eric

Thats good because you will need it, and dont ever count on Bushnell's half ***** warranty...there is a reason they are cheap, because they are built cheap and the service is cheap.

I've had a bushnell 4x16x50 with target turrents, for about 8 years with out any problems. Yes, it's only been on a 243,22-250, and lastly a 22-284. This scope has been through HE!! and back.... and has never lost it's zero, I have cranked enough elevation on it to reach 1000 yards many times and back to 200 yards it has been dead on EVERY TIME. The only complaint it it's 1/8" clicks... wish it had 1/4" clicks now. I used to hunt coyotes hard, three months non stop every winter in just about every condtion 0 deg right to -35deg, not to mention the hundreds of rounds at the range shooting steel life size coyote as far as 1000 yards.
I lost track of how many rounds this scope has seen. lets just say one 243 barrle( about 3500-3800rds), two 22-250 barrles ( about 3000-3400rds each ) and one 22-284 (1200 rounds)
I would not spent the rediculous prices for a lepould.
BUT I may be forced to now .... I would like a varmit retical which bushnell doesn't have. Or I may just settle for a mil dot instead, just so I don't have to buy a lepould.

Is that a 3200 or 4200 Elite? is the short eye relief a problem?

This is very interesting , since Ii have NEVER seen a 8 click MOA scope of any brand be able to reach 1,000 yard without running out of turret!
Are your SURE you were shooting at 1,000?
You must have a very high MOA rail o your rifle.
The Bausch and Laumbs and the Bushnells I have used run out WAY before 1,000, and I have shot many different scopes at 1,000 yard a beyond.....

I have owned three elite 3200s and an elite 4000,and I haven't had a problem with any of them.My hunting partners own five more 3200s or 4200s between them, and theirs have also been totally trouble free. All of these scopes are mounted on muzzleloaders,7mmremmags or 338win mags.
If I have more to spend,I go right to the Zeiss Conquest which is comparably priced to the VXIII but offers a constant eye relief, and to my eyes, offers superior optics as well.I used to have Leupold scopes on all of my rifles, but they have all been replaced by scopes that I feel are superior,or offer superior value for the price.Leupold makes good scopes, but I feel that they are overpriced for what they offer..

Not exactly what you're looking for, but Dante's Sports in Montreal is selling Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x (the 40mm) for $277.77 while supplies last... and while the date still reads 'February.' It's one of their Feb specials. They'd probably ship.

The scope I put on my Remington 270 Mtn Rifle is a Leupold 2-7x33mm VX-2 model with the LR reticle. It costs $389 at crappy tire 6 months ago and it is great. Light and tracks perfect. Remember, you only use the scope for 5 seconds or less to shoot the rifle and the binos get used for hours. That is why I put the big money on bins and don't over do it on scopes. The VX2 series is a great value, click adjustments , good multi-coat glass and are usable in low light times at dusk and dawn. This is a much bettter scope than any east Asia imports.

Yes I agree I like Leupold scopes, I've been doing alot of reading on them. My first thought was the VXII 2-7x33, I also like the VXIII 1.75-6x32. What are your thoghts on the Nikon Monrch 2-8x32, I looked through one once and looked very good?

The VX-3's are even better than the VX2's if you have deep pockets. The VX3's have been replaced by a new series though so if you go this way, buy the new type. See the Leupold.com web page for details. I used to buy the old vari-x 3 models back when but the VX2's use the same glass and such as the old vari-x did. Therefore, I save big money and still get good optics. Then I spend $2000 or more on good German/Austrian bins. Ziess, Swarowski, etc.
As for Nikon, I have never owned one. Do they have a Canuck repair depot? Thing you have to be careful of with scopes in Canada is service. Only a few companies (Leupold, Zeiss and Bushnell for some examples) have in Canada repair depots. If your scope has to go to the USA for repair, there are a lot of problems associated with permits and such....many months and paper work. Leupold will repair or replace your scope within 7 days or so at the Okotoks, AB office. No invoice or receipt required and you don't need to be the original buyer. You cannot beat that.
Bushnell takes longer from what I have heard...how much, I don't ever want to find out.

Yes, this is a big reason why everyone should buy a Leupold. One never knows when you need to dump a firearm to pay for that dream gun you always wanted. (Well, that is the excuse my wife accepts anyway).

I emailed Nikon Canada about warrenty service.
They apparently have a Canadian sevice depot. Yes even for scopes.
Their reply was as such:
All domestic purchase have a Canadian warranty within the Canada region only.

Dick, I read your post and feel Nikon's response does not necessarily mean they have a Canadian repair depot. I believe they refer to the warranty as Canadian and only valid in Canada vis-a-vis a warranty provided in the USA. The repairs could still require shipment to the USA. However, if they do the permit paper work, that means the customer doesn't have to. But it could still result in a long wait for the repair to be completed and the product returned to the buyer.
I still feel Leupold is the safest bet (and no I do not work for them).

Well i am pretty much set on a Lupold of some sort I know they have great warranty and a great reputation. I will most likely go with the VXII, the VXIII looks amazing in the 09 catalogue I got from Leupold, although the price tag is a little to much for me. I think the VXII will work just fine. Anyway I am hopping to go to the Bass Pro shop next month so I'll take a good look through the once I like and make a decision.

I guess I did not mention that I had the rings shimed..And If you run the balistic numbers, you will see its possible..
.224 80 gr seirra match @ 3550fps
just off the top of my head, I think the correction at
1000 yards is 22moa
I KNOW!!!! We have shot regularly out to 1000 yards, and beyond....My leica 1200 tells me so...
yes if we were shooting a 308, I can see how youd second guess the elevation adjustment.
