Default Voles are trying to move in!!

So I noticed that I’ve got a vole or multiple voles trying to setup camp in my front yard... saw one of the little buggers zip under the sidewalk yesterday. And upon inspection I found a couple holes and trails through the grass. So I suspect they are trying to settle in for the winter. So what types of traps or poisons work best for these things? Would like to get a handle on them before they destroy the lawn.

We had voles move into our flower garden a few years ago. They ate up the roots to the flowers. We planted a few spurge among the flowers. They moved out very quickly. we then filled up the tunnels they had created. I hope ,this helps. Depending on where you are located, it may be too late in the season.

They tried to move into my neighbor's yard this summer, he located all the holes, covered all but one with a rock then stuck a garden hose into the last one...let it run for a couple of hours. He had to do it a couple of times but it did the job.

I had problems with them a few years ago and I had good success just using peanut butter on a mouse trap. Set them up so just the trigger/bait is crossing their pathway.

Sister-in-law had some in her yard... IncrediGirl was visiting one day, and when when one ran by, she picked up a small stone and beaned it on the first throw.

I'll see what she charges and will get back to you.

But seriously, one trick is to take a length of plastic pipe, cut it in half, place one end over a vole hole and cap it, then put a mouse trap under the pipe. Not always effective, but better than nothing.

A mouse trap is just going to give a pocket gopher callouses.

Our cat is a vole Hunting machine. She would decapitate them and leave them on the basement walkout.

Our neighbor behind us let's his cat roam and never had a problem for a few years now

I also set mouse traps with peanut butter but I think the kitty cat took care of my issue...LOL

Bait on victor mouse trap most important, piece of apple on pan, they cannot resist, set up near each hole.

Water poured under a sidewalk wont work as there is often a massive opening under sidewalk by a house. I have them show up a few times a year under my sidewalk and I put a wooden mouse trap at each hole. It grabs them pretty good and they cant drag them down the hole and eventually die a meter or two from the hole with the trap still attached
