They may do the work pro-bono, or tell you that you are more than welcome to go with another internet provider. It all depends on the company, the individual installer and what type of marketing blitz is in play at that particular time. I built my own residential LAN so that it was plug and play when the installer showed up, thus needing to miss very little time at work/pay, and ensuring that the work was done properly damage free.

This discussion was NOT related to an AC outlet or plumbing fixture - so other than a clever question you posed - it's 100% irrelevant and, quite frankly just completely ridiculous comparison.
We are talking about a WIFI/Internet/Cable provider.
Our household has extensive devices and my son, who recently graduated from NAIT, and has both an education and expertise on many thing "tech" related like WIFI and other stuff I probably understand at a basic level, where he has extensive expertise. He was able to measure, diagnose and provide a "plan" to the installers which effectively and permanently improved our issues which included re-wiring the entire 2800 ft2 house, with cable going into a couple areas on all 3 floors.
I'm not sure if that "plan" played a part in the "courtesy" re-wire of the entire system, but I can assure you, without hesitation, I paid nothing and there were 2 guys here all day and were visited for a few hours by a third installer (I assumed he was an electrician or some sort of other specialist).
It's more likely that I had absorbed/tolerated many issues which were unresolved on their first several attempts and made it clear, that after 15 years of being a customer, it was up to them to permanently and effectively resolve the issue or that I would be taking my business elsewhere.
That's all - that's it. Not that tough to understand really.
It wasn't an idle threat or tactic - it was simple reality and brutal honesty.
