Default WMU 326 Moose

Hello all,

This year we were lucky enough to get an early season moose draw in 326. A couple years ago our friend had the same draw and after a lot of miles and a miss-judged shot, his hopes were crushed.

This year we hope to hunt two areas in 326 that we like for moose, both of which are also good for whitetail. While hunting whitetail the past couple years we have had the opportunity to do some scouting in these spots; which are along the Swan Lake road, and North Prairie Creek road. Anyways, just wondering if there is any one else on here with a 326 moose draw. Also, anyone not hunting moose in this area see anything over the summer months. We will likely be out the long weekend and the weekend after doing some scouting so any tid bits would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great hunting season to all.

Cheers,

Default Finally... The Wait is Over

The wait is finally over; moose rifle season opens this Saturday in WMU326. According to the statistics 7 people were drawn for early season, and 17 for late season. Our hunting party has done some scouting and have a couple spots pinned down for opening weekend. 

Anyone else heading out to 326 for moose this weekend (or any other critters)?

Has anyone been successful with the archery season in 326?

Anyways, good luck to all and I’ll keep you posted on the moose hunt.

Ive seen a lot of moose this summer in 326. Been drivin through there to work as highway 22 gets boring. You should easily bag one during the rut, I would put money on it. Watch out for the cougars there, they all over the place too.

I used to bear hunt in a neighbouring zone I would say the moose sign was a little light. lots of wolves in the area. I have seen some good cat tracks sledding up the ram in the area. As well I captured 7 different Griz on 2 trails cams this spring so be aware if you are calling. Hope all goes well and maybe you whack a few wolves while your at it. maybe even throw a BB tag in your pocket.

Default Moose

So the opening weekend proved to be an exciting time, but not successful. We ran into two different bulls a couple times but couldn't get the right shot/distance off. We were calling in the mornings and the bigger bull seemed very responsive. At least we were able to practice our call and know it was working.

The next trip out to 326 will be for the long weekend in October.
If anyone else is going out or sees any moose in 326 I would like to hear how it goes. Good luck all...

Were we were it wasn't too bad. Didn't run into anyone in our specific area, however there were a couple people accross the road and down a valley from us. We also ran into a couple people going a bit further back. Also saw a few cars/trucks driving up and down the road looking for game, at +25 I wish them luck. Otherwise it wasn't too bad, but i'm sure the warm weather discouraged some people.

Can you point a 'Danielson' towards a quiet place to a whitetail buck and 2 does? was waiting for the hunting numbers to calm down a bit before making the drive from Ded Rear. But it sounds like it has. I tend to end up on Swan lake road and walking cut lines (no atv)

Just so you know, I am also hunter and follow the Outdoorsmen Forum. I also work for Sundre Forest Products and was quite surprised to read that someone would admit to cutting off one of our locks. Just so you and everyone else, know - cutting off those locks is an illegal activity. We are getting tired of people cutting off locks, wrecking gates and damaging equipment either because they think that they can have their own private hunting ground or do not agree with logging. So next time you pull out your bolt cutters I suggest that you smile as you may be on candid camera.

Default Swan Lake... Zone 326???

In some of the posts above it is stated hunting along the Swan Lake road, as Zone 326. I think it is Zone 324 and if so the season does not open untill Nov 1st.

The Swan lake road divides the 2 zones one side is 326 the other 324.

Quotes like this are one of the main reasons most landowners could really care less if they ever seen a hunter in the fall. Good luck in your pursuits and thanks for that good etiquette lesson.

The "Swan Lake Road" ( gravel road that goes to Swan Lake) DOES divide 324 and 326. As a matter of fact there are even signs on either side of the road that indicate this.
