Default Snaring coyotes

Wondering what is total length of snare and wire/ cable on your snare setups ? I'm in an area where there is very little brush or trees for entanglement .Do you use drags or stakes ? Thanx for any replies .

I run 7 foot snares on mine. If there is little bush I would run an extension on my snare and give it some length. No drags just anchor it solid

Default snaring coyotes

I like to use 8' 5/64X1/19 snares. I have a cam lock, and kill spring, with a 265 lb. breakaway s hook on them. I anchor to something solid. Usually a couple of good lunges, and it's all over for mr. yote.

Don't be cheap with the wire length.
As for the ballpoint pen style springs, much inferior to the triggered springs.

My opinion only.
Good opinion

Have you experienced many sitting, waiting for you?
Usually larger cable=poorer chinch up.

What length do you recommend for kill springs 6.5?
What system do you like for coyotes?

I use 10ft of 5/64 (nicely divides into a 1000ft spool) with serrated camlocks & Sennecker springs cw triggers.
This allows a "get out of Dodge" speed buildup, serrated cam jams tightly and then the kill spring does its job.
You will not break the 5/64 on a straight pull, it's the fatigue from extended flexing & biting that causes cable failure. This includes wolf.
That's why I'm dead against using drags with snares (prominant trappers' opinion notwithstanding).
This is strictly my opinion-no passing on others' thoughts!

I think that combo would work well for sure. I think I will lengthen the cable next year and see how she works

Also, have you been using triggers in conjunction with the CC springs?
I believe that's a salient point... the kinetic energy of the cocked spring, as opposed to the relaxed spring acting as a shock absorber.

LOL .. Non , only 1 , but that is too many. I would prefer them all dead when I get there . The live one was in a snare that had a drag instead of being anchored , won't use them any more . So the smaller cable tightens better ? The guy that skins for me has trouble with eagles tearing up his catch , anyone else have that problem ?
