USE RESPECT THIS FALL
This fall you may notice yellow and green signs on the fences of potential hunting grounds. These signs are part of the Use Respect Program launched by Sustainable Resource Development and Alberta Conservation Association. The program is designed to help build awareness of the rights and responsibilities of recreationists, agricultural leaseholders and landowners.
The signs are designed to assist you in taking the responsible step of contacting the leaseholder or receiving permission from the landowner before entering onto the land. Each sign includes the name and phone number of the person you need to contact to access the land. The signs also tell you whether the land is privately or publicly owned, as there are different access rights for these lands.

Private Land Access (Yellow Sign)
USE RESPECT CONTACT FIRST
Public Land Access (Green Sign)
The landowner has the right to permit or forbid access as they determine appropriate.
Leaseholders must provide reasonable recreational access as specified in the Recreational Access Regulations.
On agricultural public land, the leaseholder may refuse you access if:
You are travelling by any other means than by foot.
Livestock are present in a fenced pasture.
There is an un-harvested crop
A fire ban has been issued by municipal or provincial authority.
You intend to camp.
The proposed use is disallowed by the recreational management plan or a condition set by the government.
Both recreational users and leaseholders are encouraged to work cooperatively on finding fair solutions to land access. If there is a dispute, you can contact the nearest Lands office of Sustainable Resource Development by calling 310-0000. Staff are available to help you reach a resolution.
This hunting season, look for the green and yellow signs with the leaseholder or landowner contact information. Call first, and use respect when accessing public and private lands.
